Forthe non-skiing winter vacationer, there's plenty to see and do in this sprawling Alpine wonder land when Mother Nature pow ders her face. For the sightseer and photo grapher, there's the incompara ble scenic majesty of the snow- robed Rockies. More than 1,100 chalk-marked peaks tower above a 10,000-foot altitude and clear, paved skyways unfold hundreds of miles of breath taking winter panorama. Fields of feathery snow, framed with emerald forests of spruce and pine, sparkle in the golden sun shine to paint Nature's own Christmas card. At any time of the year, sun shine is a principal ingredient in a top-of-the-nation vacation. Winter is no exception. Colo rado winters are relatively mild with a monthly average of 24 sunshiny days from November to May. The fan b varied Traditional summer sports of fishing, golfing, tennis and even swimming in heated pools are all the more enjoyable in the dry, crisp Colorado winter air. Colorado's winter vacation enjoyment isn't limited to fun in the sun, and apres-ski life isn't confined to skiers. As the warm glow of sunset silhouettes the Rockies, a glitter of activity in creases at resort areas through out "Winterland USA." Varied as skiing itself, the zesty apres-ski life begins when the lifts close, and activity shifts from the slopes to the festive atmosphere of the restaurants and lodges where both skiers and non-skiers share good food and drink, and warm cama raderie. Apres ski entertainment r The winter vacationer can enjoy fine entertainment at an intimata^rright spot, a gourmet meal at one of the uniquely dif ferent restaurants, or just relax before a blazing hearth and dream of an exciting day ahead. An increasing number of anglers are enjoying the interest ing and uncrowded sport of winter fishing. Because of the relatively mild climate, winter fishing in Colorado is not the frigid, spine-chilling sport one might imagine. Cross-country ski touring is becoming increasingly popular. Throughout Colorado's high- country snow bowls, instruc tion, rental equipment, marked trails and packaged tours includ ing transportation and accom modation are readily available. How to accommodate them without throwing yourself and your household into a tizzy, every time the doorbell rings? Stock up in advance with de- lectables. A few cans or jars of nuts, some candies packaged in bright holiday wrappings, a . couple of cheeses--a hunk of Edam, a round of Brie, some of that scrumptious cream cheese , with herbs spread--and some boxes of savory crackers will go a long way to satisfying the ap petites of those friends and neighbors who stop in for a while to share the Christmas cheer.
