DECEMBER II. lMt Family Recipes For Holiday Togetherness Try Family Cooking ^W^ppin^Wit^apping^ Holi^rCookfcsFor Kids To Bake The holidays are traditionally a time for family togetherness and a time for good things to eat. So why not combine the two and do some family cooking this holiday season? Or, let the children share the kit chen and make a simple lunch or dinner while other family members are busy with elaborate holiday baking. These tried and true recipes are from the "Outdoor Book", published by Camp Fire, Inc. (for merly Camp Fire Girls), a not-for-profit youth agency with 500,000 members, both boys and girls. A breakfast of California egg crackel gets the day off to a hearty start, kabobs or fondue make an easy and fUn lunch, and even the youngest children can make no-cook bumps on a log. The directions are for cooking outdoors, but also can be cooked inside, too, on the stove or in the oven. Whether you try these Camp Fire treats on a family camping trip or in the coziness of your kitchen, you'll find them simple enough for the youngsters and delicious enough for the whole family. The McHenry West Drama club presents the dramatic play, "The Dark at the Top of the Stairs", Jan 15, for senior citizens only, at 8 p.m.; Jan. 18and 17,8 p.m., and Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. The play takes place in the early 1920's during an oil boom in a small Oklahoma town. Throughout the play there is an apparent darkness at the top of the stairs. It seems to hold some possible threat to all the characters. Rubin and Cora Flood and their two children, Reenie and Sonny, are the center of the story. The play builds cm the problems and needs of Cora, who, in a time of need, calls upon her sister Lottie, and Lottie's husband Morris. During the play, .Reenie's friend, Flirt, enlightens the acts with her spunky, sassy character. Flirt's boyfriend, Punky, is her opposite in character as he rarely says anything. The famiiyiis also joined by a Jewish boy, Sammy, visiting • from California. Althoughtoe's not ashamed of his Jewish heritage, he wants to ,be accepted as other people are. This creates a tension in the Flood household, because they are not familiar with any Jewish people. Throughout the play tensions rise and then somewhat cease, only to be brought up again.
