Fran Olsen Executive Director McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce Complete 1980 Census The 1980 Census of Population and Housing has ended in Lake, McHenry and northeast Cook counties. The temporary census district office at Great Lakes Naval Training center recently closed, the Bureau 6f the Census, U.S. Department of Commerce, has announced. Preliminary population and housing figures for the local governments in these counties have been sent to the highest elected official in each community. These preliminary totals are subject to later revisions. C o m p l e t e d c e n s u s questionnaires from the Great Lakes office have been shipped to a census processing facility, where they will be fed through high speed equipment which microfilms each page. The microfilm is then scanned electronically and the data from the census forms- excluding names and ad dresses-transmitted di rectly to the Census Bureau's computers in Suitland, Md., just outride Washington, D.C. Once computer tabulation of the data has been com pleted, final population and housing counts will be released early in 1981 and will supersede the preliminary totals.
