Valued up to $40. Certificate expires January 31, 1981. Raymond J. Smion Given by: Warren Weber - Fred Meyer Sorry I missed the person who left the message and a flock of pictures of former Cub players (something I always wanted). How thoughtful of Warren and Fred. But, maybe they didn't notice I have a permanent skin scalp and my hair is combed with a washrag. A couple of tricksters! Must remember to do something for them some day. Whoops! It was Barb Weber who delivered the note and pictures. Wayne Meddings made the supreme sacrifice to part with the Cub pictures. Sports Editor Joel picked up the story on the Warrior victory over the Blue Steaks in a big way. Gfed to have him admit that he didh't think the ac tions are sportsmanlike even though he goes along with the fact that such actions are found in both high school and college sports. Maybe it is a generation or several generation gaps, but I hadn't seen those actions while an opposing player is shooting a free throw until recent years. v Cheerleaders still follow the old rule. The Golden Rule. Our high school golfers or any golfer will tell you the gallery will be quiet when they are making a shot or putting, then cheer anybody who gets off a good one. Somebody said, "Chivalry is dead". Maybe so. But, I haven't seen the name SPORTSMANSHIP in the obituary columns. Timels have changed. Maybe Vhv old fashioned. Whatever it is, I'm going to keep on ejoying sports and having fun. Having attended old McHenry High and followed sports all through the years, how well I know the rivalry between Woodstock and McHenry. Woodstock was the big school in the County and all the smaller schools tried their darndest to knock them off. In the real early days when McHenry High had such outstanding athletes as Francis and Ed Bonslett, Germer Petesch, Henry Miller, Guy Bacon, Alfred Richardson, Lester "Dutch" Bacon and Frank Justen, they knocked off Woodstock by such scores as 23-14,16-15, and 22-18. Then came years when the County Seaters ruled the roost . Never was there a time when it wasn't a great pleasure to beat Woodstock teams. Christmas trees are taken down and put on the curb for pickup. Gifts have been exchanged. Beautiful Wrapping paper, ripped from packages ingloriously, has been burned. Christmas carols gave way to New Year's Auld Lang Syne and things are getting back to normal. The new year is off and winging. What will it bring? It is just as well we cannot see. With good and long time friends, Joe and Verona Etten, we rang in the new year with a crowd in a happy mood Must say we gave priority to the good food over the liquid refreshments. It was tame compared to parties of younger days, but just perfect at this stage of the game. If you watched half the games in the past week, you have footballs coming out of your ears. , The saddest words: He's to the 40, the 30, the 20 the 10. He's over! Hold it. There's a flag on the play. And -- more sad words: The many says it will be 15 to 20 degrees BELOW by morning. You can freeze your britches in that kind of weather. I'm a weight watcher. Yep. I watch the scales go up, up and away during the holiday feasts. It has been suspected that some unheralded team would beat the DePaul Blue Demons. Furman tied the Demons at the half. But, it was too good to last for the invaders. In the last half, the DePaul stars separated the men from the boys. OLD SAYINGS: There's many a slip twixt the cup and the lip. Old flames are easily kindled. A know-it-all knows nothing.
