This was not so earlier in the century, when these photos were taken. Top picture shows Peter Schoewer, father of Fred Schoewer of McHenry, in front of his business known as P.J. Schoewer, Horseshoer, Blacksmith and Wagonmaker. It was located on the site of Northern Illinois Medical Associates, 1110 N. Green street. North of the shop, nearer the creek, was the Schower home, shown below with the family members in front. Note netting on horses' ears. Mental Health League To Sponsor Lunch-Conference Thanks to the Mental Health Resource league, several county mental health agencies found something extra in their Christmas socks this season. The county-wide volunteer organization awarded over $16,000 to agencies including Pioneer center, Youth Service bureau, Northern Illinois Special Recreation association, SEDOM, Windsong Acres, Turning Point, and the Family Services & Community Mental Health center. As part of its annual membership drive, the league is sponsoring a seminar and luncheon Feb. 16 at Lakeside center in Crystal Lake. Congratulations and best wishes for many more happy years together. Most every family has its own Thanksgiving, 4th of July, and birthday traditions. Similarly, most taxpayers have their own Federal income tax return filing traditions. Basically these taxpayers fall into one of two categories. The first category is that of the "Eager Beavers." They are the ones who file around the end of January-just as soon as they have gotten their tax return packages and wage and tax statements. The other group is the "Last-Minute Finishers." These are the people who spend April 15, every year, completing their returns and visiting the post office. The Internal Revenue service does not expect taxpayers to completely change their ways nor would it be advantageous for everyone to file at exactly the same time. But taxpayers who wait until the last minute, the Internal Revenue service suggests, might find that filing earlier-even if only a week or a few days earlier- could make a big difference. For one thins, if the tax payer is expecting a refund- be or she will get it that much sooner. Additionally, by not procrastinating for quite so long the taxpayer will probably be more relaxed and take more time in completing the form. Not rushing will lessen the possibility of* making an error which could delay a refund and could help the taxpayer discover credits or deductions for which he or she qualifies. Of course, there are many taxpayers who file close to the filing deadline because they must wait for certain necessary forms like the W- 2, "Wage and Tax statement," or 1099, "Statement of Dividends or Interest." The Internal Revenue service advises these tax payers who do not receive their statements by Jan. 31 to contact the employer or payer and request that the form be issued. • Taxpayers who still have not received their W-2's by Feb. 15 should call the IRS toll-free telephone number for their area. Those waiting for Forms 1099 should note that it is not necessary to attach this form to thei% completed returns. All that is required is the payment information from the forms; so if'the taxpayer has kept accurate records or can get the in formation from the issuing ^company, he or she can file "without having received the form. The important thing to remember about filing your Federal income tax return is to file by April 15. If possible, though, file earlier ; it has its advantages. * * • * When you get disgust ed with the work you are doing, it is time to try some other work. * * * * Envy supplies the motivation for about fifty percent of the world's small talk. & oxotfiL) i ^uznLtuzz . -Special (2 in cj in ^z>ofa 'jScdi an J ccfine ti WE'RE Hi SAVE SAVE SAVE (815)344-5400 Sleeper 4507 W.
