Bob ZeUer gave up only two hits off the mound and drove in the only run of1 the game. In the remaining 7 games, McHenry stayed ahead of the league, gaining 4 wins and 3 losses during the rest of the month. They ended the season in fourth place in the Fox Valley with an M mark, but the most interesting McHenry win came in a non-conference 5-4 win over Johnsburg.. Joe Bauml hit .391 with 25 hits and Joe Bellich was 7-2 from the mound to collect all-conference honors for McHenry. The could advance no further, however, as the team placed three players, Sue Haddick, Terri Bohlman and Chris Connell on the All- Conference Squad. The number 5 seemed prominent in McHenry's track and field season as the Warriors of Dan Boland finished fifth in the Con­ ference Meet and fifth in the Woodstock Relays. As for Johnsburg track team, they finished third in the 22 team Lisle meet, and second in a triangular meet with Harvard in North Boone. Chris Dixon set a school reocrd with a 5'10" in the high jump. The McHenry girl tracksters finished sixth in the Districts and sent 7 girls to the State Track Meet while Johnsburg sent two girls down stftte after placing seventh in the 24- school District. After Cheri Kofler finished first in the long jump in the conference meet, she placed 14th in State long jump competition. Her teammate Sue Moulis, took first in the 800-meter run in the Shark Conference Meet but was 20th in the state race in Eastern Illinois University. Boy's tennis rounded out the competition in high School sports for 1979410 as McHenry finished third in the Fox Valley when the doubles team of Tim Sabatka and Butch Pintozzi beat the undefeated Crystal Lake South duo in the finals of the Fox Valley Tour­ nament. The Warriors finished third in the con­ ference, but Sabatka and Pintozzi teamed up to win three matches before being eliminated in state com­ petition. Marian also boasted a good tennis team, finishing 16-2 as Mike Kiernan paced the Hurricanes from- his number one singles slot. Other Spring sport Marian Most Valuables included Chris Blake in baseball, Paddy Guerin and Linda Aim in softball and Bob Sleconich in track. JUNE McHenry Jr. Youth league training program started at the little league diamond behind the V.F.W. The program is free to boys in the greater McHenry area, ages 8 and 7 and will be needed by J. Lazalde, Richard Doherty and Tom roach. McHenry's varsity girls' softball team bowed out of the 1900I.H.S.A. tournament as they lost 54) to Loves Park Harlem in sectional play. Out of Norman University, Oklahoma, comes word that Pat Stoffel has again distinguished herself in the world of sports. Pat batted .455 in fast pitch competition and had no errors against her record. After ten years at the helm of the Warrior baseball team, Coach Ken Swanson has retired to the sidelines. The veteran coach turned in his resignation to school officials several weeks ago. Sue Moulis was elected most valuable player on the Johnsburg high school girls' track squad and was named captain. Winners of special track awards at Johnsburg high school were Wayne Besserud, co-captain and most valuable track man who took 12th place in the 800 meter dash in state com­ petition; Jim Flood, co- captain; Chris Dixon, all- conference jumper who ties the Shark conference high jump record; Rick Szumlas, highest point getter on the team and winner of the 100 percent award. Earl Walsh, sports editor of the McHenry Plaindealer for UMC than 4G years welcomed Joel Wakitsch to the newspaper staff. With the expansion of the sports TIGER SCORE-came early in the mini-league baseball season which began In early May.
