Phyllis Schlafly, well known opponent of the Equal Rights amendment, appeared on behalf of an ad hoc committee to talk to the press about the Fall conference on "Pro-Family". Members of the League of Women Voters and Business ft Professional Women's clubs appeared with pro-ERA placards. Because of the absence of a microphone, it became necessary for club and league members to make their feelings known by shouting.
