CUB PACK 162 JOHN GRANDT Cub Scout Pack 162 held its eighteenth annual Blue and Gold banquet Sunday, Feb. 8, at the American Legion hall in McHenry. This year's Blue and Gold banquet marks Cub Scouting's fifty-first an­ niversary. The organization was incorporated in America Feb. 8, 1910, as a movement to sponsor character, citizenship and physical fitness in American youth. This year's dinner began with the Webelos from Den 1 presenting the flags while Brian Fisher led everyone in the pledge of allegiance. After the invocation given by the Webelos, a delicious roast beef dinner was en­ joyed by parents and Scouts. Everyone was seated at beautifully decorated tables designed by each den. Chairman Dave Hunt began the program by in­ troducing and recognizing special guests, Mr. and Mrs. Lent and Mr. and Mrs. Lester Smith. Cubmaster John Grandt received a round of applause as he was given a special service award for 14 years of dedicated service to the Cub Scouts. Grandt and den mothers gave achievement awards to Paul Knoll, Webelos book, Bear patch, and Gold arrow; Jeff Lewis, Webelos book, recruiter patch; Chris Groer, Webelos book, Gold arrow; John Minton, Webelos book; Jim Roland, Wolf patch, Gold arrow, 4 Silver arrows; Ruben Gonzoles, Bear patch, Gold arrow, 7 Silver arrows; Brian Fritz, Wolf patch, Gold arrow, 3 Silver arrows; Sean Gilliland, Gold arrow, 2 Silver arrows, Wolf patch; Bill Fortino, Bear patch, Gold arrow and 4 Silver arrows. Robert Hine, a professional hypnotist, entertained parents and Scouts with a program that involved several volunteers from the audience with his powers of suggestion. Sponsored by the Farm Bureau Women's com­ mittee. the meeting will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28 at the McHenry County Farm Bureau building, Woodstock. "People on the farm handling anhydrous ammonia are in danger, but there are many who may be in the vicinity of an accident and should know what to do in an emergen­ cy," she explained. An Indiana study shows that all victims surveyed were familiar with the operation of anhydrous ammonia equipment and were aware of its dangers. "People too often disregard safety precautions, so we want to review prevention steps along with cautions to follow when around anhydrous ammonia," said Mrs. Lillegard. John Scott, safety specialist with the country companies, will present the program. A chili lunch will be served at no cost, and Mrs. Lillegard said reservations "would be helpful in plan­ ning but are not required."
