FEBRUARY 18. 1161 tCi r y MCACE Shows Film Plan Dinner-Fashion Show MCACE (McHenry County Area Childbirth Educators) is iponsoring a showing of the film "Nan's Class", made by the American Society for Psychoprophyiaxis in Ob­ stetrics, on Thursday, Feb. 19, 7 p.m., at the McHenry Public library, ion N. Green street. The movie portrays the labors and deliveries of five couples and a single parent using the Lamase method. It depicts some of the newest approaches to childbirth. Early pregnancy classes, Lamaze classes and Cesarean childbirth classes are offered by ASPO cer­ tified instructors. For fur­ ther information concerning the film or classes, please call Mrs. John J. McHenry Senior Citizens Support Worthwhile Units Set Class For Parents A final reminder to prospective parents comes from Mrs. Fran Scholpp, R.N., obstetrical depart­ ment supervisor at Memorial hospital for McHenry county, Wood­ stock. Mrs. Scholpp announced the next "Preparation for Parenthood" free in­ structional course - a two evening session - will begin at 8 p.m. Monday, Mar. 2. The informational program will be held in the hospital dining room on both Mar. 2 and 9, a free community service program of the Jiospital. Both prospective parents have attended the sessions in the past and are invited and encouraged to do so. Mrs. Schol; >p will take part in the program, which in­ cludes a tour of the hospital's Maternity department, movies and talks. Schedule PWP Meeting Celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary this year, the Aaxlttary to McHenry hospital presents "La Fashion Affaire" a dinner and fashion show hud-raiser to aid patients at McHenry hospital. The event will be held the eveaing of Aprils, at Andre's Steak House in Richmond and tickets mast be reserved in advance. Box «, McHenry, 111. 9SSSS Welcome Two Volunteers The Widows and Widowers group of Parents Without Partners Chapter No. 189 in Crystal Lake will hold its m o n t h l y m e e t i n g Wednesday, Feb. 25, in a member's home in Lake In The Hills. The meeting will begin at 8 p.m. and coffee and dessert will be served. The group is open to all widows and widowers who are members of P.W.P. and it meets each month to discuss problems, concerns and interests unique to a single situation. J Periodically a social event is planned in place of the meeting. Members of P.W.P. are always welcome to join W.W. activities whether or not they are widowed. After the vice president, Thomas Gatlin, called the meeting of the McHenry Senior Citizens to order, at West campus Feb. 9, Florence Roth, secretary, read letters from the rescue squads and FISH. Those units perform outstanding services to the communities and are valuable assets, which inspired the seniors to present them with substantial donations. Members were asked to notify the chib when one of the group is ill. Also, when a death occurs, the club remembers the deceased witha special contribution to the rescue squad. Pat Gatlin, acting Program ^chairperson, introduced the duo of Hill and Litchfield, who presented a fine program enjoyed by all present Their choice of numbers was very appropriate for the Valentine holiday. Leona Hush, Membership, reported there are 312 paid up members, and one new member, Ann Brzezliski. Dues may be mailed to Senior Citizens, P. O. Box 901, McHenry, HI. 60060. A stamped, self-addressed envelope will enable her to mail the membesMp card, or, it may be picked up at the following meeting. A Driver Refresher series will be given Mar. 5, 12 and 19 in the council chambers of McHenry City hall, from 10 a.m. to noon. It is not necessary to be a member of the Senior Citizens club tp participate in the course^ which is condeucted /under the auspices of the Secretary of State. The classes enable participants to successfully complete a written driver's license renewal more easily. Registration can be made by contacting James Jensen, who has done an outstandihg job as the teacher. Marchall Hillglass announced the bowling program is doing fine and the banquet will be Wednesday, May 20, at the Moose lodge. Pat Gatlin, acting Greeter, awarded prizes to Zura Aldridge, James Jansen and Mae Quist. There were 96 members present Plans for the bus tour to see "Man of La Mancha" in April are being made by the Tour chairperson, Clem Umbdenstock. Some changes are being made in the method to sign tip for trips which will make it more fab*. Anna Lura, Social chairperson, . and her helpers, again wore the clever apfons and served a delicious lunch in keeping with the Valentine theme. They are Alice Bethel, Eve Eisentraut, Ruth Markwart, Clara Slegar and May Eltoft. The next meeting will be Feb. 23, at which time games will be played. There will be a Board meeting Mar. 2, 10 a.m., at the McHenry Public library. Mar. 9 will be the first meeting in the new location at the East campus cafeteria. Weather Cuts Attendance Tina Gorski, director of the McHenry Birthright, welcomed two new phone volunteers at a recent meeting held at the organization's new location, 4902 Crystal Lake road, suite C, rooms five and six. She emphasized that with the expanded space from the new office and the increased number of calls, even more volunteers are needed. The Crystal Lake Service Unit representative of the Salvation Army was the guest speaker. "I work anonymously," the representative said, explaining that by remaining anonymous, no one will ever hesitate to call when needing help. She said the army helps with food, housing, medical care, the needs of transients, and by referring people to appropriate agencies. Fuikkaising chairman, Dariene Heim, reported on die success of the card sales and suggested repeating the project this year. Mrs. Gorski discussed plans for the upcoming a n n u a l B i r t h r i g h t International convention to be held in Toronto, Canada this summer. Last year, 11 volunteers from the McHenry chapter were able to attend the convention in Notre Dame, Ind. "Another tremendous need the group has," Mrs. Gorski added, "is for baby clothing and maternity clothing. In the last three weeks, most of the supplies 1 have been loaned out to needy mothers and children." Marcia Mary Ball circle had a rather small attendance at the February meeting. Hostess Cleda McCracken served very delicious refreshments, after which the group had a short devotional period. Plans were discussed in detail for the sacrificial Agape luncheon, which was scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 19, in the Fellowship hall at the First United Methodist church. Members of the Marcia Mary Ball circle will be hostesses and the Circle chairman will take care of purchasing the food. Cards were signed for absent members who are ill and the group enjoyed a social time after all the business was handled. The next meeting of Marcia Mary Ball circle will be Tuesday, Mar. 3, at noon. Members are requested to bring their own sandwich and hostess Lonah Wendland will serve beverage and dessert. Ladies of the congregation who are not affiliated with a circle are invited to come and have fellowship with Marcia Mary Ball circle. McHenry County 8 et*40 Salon 483 Invites * Guest On Mar. 5, the McHenry Woman's club will hold its annual Card Party for the benefit of the McHenry Public library. The party will begin with a Dessert Luncheon served at 12 p.m., followed by an afternoon of card playing. The committee advised that there will be numerous prizes and the public is most cordially invited to attend. Tickets are now on sale and can be secured from any club member or by^ ceiling the president Mrs. Omar C. Elmore, Shorewood drive, « McHenry. They may also be obtained at the door on Mar. 5. Each year the McHenry Woman's club has presented the McHenry Public library with a check to be used for equipment or some ap­ propriate item needed at the library. The library has enjoyed many im­ provements provided by the proceeds of the annual card party. Everyone is urged to come, enjoy a pleasant af­ ternoon and support a worthy cause.v At a recent meeting of McHenry County 8 et 40 Salon 483, plans were made for a dinner to be held at the McHenry Legion hall, Sunday, Feb. 22, at which time the Department Chapeau will be a guest. A social hour from 4 to 5 p.m. will precede the stuffed jx>rk chop dinner, which will be followed by a meeting. Reservations for the dinner must be made in advance. When Chapeau Agnes Wappler of Hebron opened the meeting at die Huntley Legion hall, there were 19 partners in attendance. It was announced that stuffed toys should be turned in so they will be ready to go to die April 5 Pouvoir. Trophy and Awards chairman, Becky Gabel, Fox River Grove, awarded prizes to Mabel Schultz, Huntley for having the youngest granddaughter. Mary Earner, Hebron, also reeived a prise for having the newest RV. Ways and Means, Esther Bsllard, Woodstock, reported several have paid cookie money and next month, she will be collecting birthday dues and tax money. Fun and Frolic, Mabel Schultz, was in charge of a very clever game, played with the auxiliary membership card numbers, and Chris Nixon of McHenry was the winner. A letter was read from the Department Chapeau, McHenry county to the take part in entertainment at the Pouvoir. Final plans will be made at the February meeting, when she will be present. V i r g i n i a M a n n , Woodstock, reported seeing Lauretta and Roy Homo ana Alice Rossberg in Florida. The meeting was adjourned and lunch was served by the Huntley unit The next meeting will be in February at McHenry. For the March 23 meeting, Crystal Lake will be the hosting unit. LPPOA Holds Mardi Gras Dinner Dance One of the most festive activities of the winter season is the Mardi Gras dinner dance sponsored by the Lakeland Park Property Owners association. To be served "Lakeland park style," the dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, in the American Legion clubhouse on Ringwood road. The hall will open at 6 o'clock to allow guests to socialize before the buffet style dinner. Dancing will start at 8 p.m. to the music of a fine band. The public is invited to attend.
