PAGE 4 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 20,1961 THE LUMBER STORE WITH SERVICE AND MORE Ringwood News Karen Kirwan Bazilewich 653-9626 Local Couple Restore House What in Ringwood can cause more people to stare and cause near accidental conditions? An old house being restored, or course! Restoring old buildings always seems to bring a t ' ' delight to people's imagination. Chris and Sally Delby of 4813 Barnard Mill road, are accomplishing just that - and not on a small scale by any means. But they know what they are doing, as they have built other additions and homes before taking on the complete restoration of this house. Chris and Sally wish they knew more about the history of the house, its original owners and when it was built. While tearing down a wall, they found two signatures on a piece of sheathing which look like George Shakhn and Dick R. Themerel of Johnsburg and McHenry. Anyone recognize the names? They also found newspapers dated 1905 stuffed in a wall. They know the builder was J. W. Christy, but don't know when it was built; maybe some of the old timers from Ringwood could help them out. The Delbys moved here about one and one-half years ago, and renovation started immediately and hasn't stopped yet. The house has been completely gutted of its inners, which explains the large dumpsters they have had to use. Like many of the "new era" marriages, Sally hardly ever is to be found in the kitchen and works right along with her husband, not just handing Mm nails and hammers. Chris said, "She'd work for very little pay, so I hired her!" Sally throws around 100 pounds of cement like it was Ave pounds of sugar; works the large saw; puts on siding and even does electrical work. "What more could a man want?", says Chris laughingly. The Delbys have many plans for the old house; the most interesting, a solar edition. They are always happy to "talk solar" and invite neighbors to come over to chat and sit around the ole wood burner, the main source of heat while the house is under con struction. This is a house we should all keep an eye on in Ringwood. We wish you luck, it's always nice to see the neighborhood improving with folks like you. SURPRISE BIRTHDAY PARTY - Lynn Bauer called to let me know her family held a surprise 50th birthday party for Georgia Bauer. The guests arrived caravan style by car at Georgia's home, all beeping their horns. That's a surprise alright! . Thirty-five relatives and friends enjoyed the get- together Gag gifts were abound, and so was all the food prepared by family. Fifty handles were lit, and Lynn says, jokingly, "several fire engines stood by". Won't that be a birthday to remember. Many more to you, Georgia! This will be the last month that the drive will be held only once a month. Begin ning in March the recycling drive will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on both the first and third Saturdays 'of each month. The McHenry ' County Defenders hope this will encourage more people to become involved in . recycling since they wUl not need to save their materials for as long a period of time. As an added incentive to recycle, an aluminum pay back program will be initiat ed at the March 7 drive. In dividuals or groups bringing in aluminum cans will be paid at the rate of 25 cents a pound. A premium of 3 additional cents per pound will be paid for quantities of ova- 100 pounds brought in. Any TV dinner trays, foil, or other . aluminum products can still be left with the regular recycling collection. The pay-back program applies only to aluminum cans, and will be in effect only on the first Saturday of each month. Anyone not wishing to be involved in the pay-back program may leave their aluminum cans along with other aluminum products. Recyclers are encouraged to bring their bundled newspapers, bottles, cans, aluminum, and used motor oil to the Market Place this Saturday. By so doing, each family involved is helping save natural resources, helping save landfill space, and helping the groups working on the drives. Anyone' having questions regarding recycling may call 385-8512. \ VOTERS REGISTRATION The League of Women Voters and Citizens' Legislative organization of District 15 are undertaking a campaign to register as many voters as possible for the election April 7.
