Statistics show that driving at night is four times more deadly than day driving. The list of things to help you drive more safely at night is continued this week: 1. Keep your windshield clean. You should have plenty of windshield washer fluid on hand, especially during the dirty winter months. 2. Stay awake and alert. Do not drive if you are tired or sleepy. Frequent stops, fresh air, lively radio programs and similar measures can help avoid drowsiness and inattention. 3. Watch carefully for highway signs. They are harder to see at night. 4. Be especially watchful - for pedestrians and vehicles stopped along the edge of the road. 5. Do not stop on the roadway for any reason. 6. Carry a red warning light for use when stops alongside the roadway are unavoidable. (A copy of the Rules of the Road booklet will be sent/ you upon request. Write Jim Edgar, Secretary oP State, Springfield, 111. 62756.) Calling Colleen Dear Colleen: My kid brother is a real jerk. He's only a frelhman, but he thinks he is a big man around the high school and at home be cause he plays two sports. He's always making wisecracks and acting "cute". When I try to put him in his place and tell him to shut up, or fight, dad comes along and breaks it up. He says I was the same way three years ago. I don't think so. The kid is bugging me and 1 don't know what to do about it. Bugged Dear Bugged: You may have an older broth er or sister. If so, they will re member how you were three years ago. Ask for a second opinion. Then, try for some self-control, mixed with a bit of understanding. Athlete or scholar, most high school fresh men undergo a social adjust ment that isn't always easy. They may become aggressive or rely on wisecracks or retorts to show that they are "cool", when they are really trying to disguise their fears and anxie ties. Keep in touch with dad. The more you talk to him and the older you get, the more you wilt realize that he is getting wiser all the time. A new Veterans Ad ministration publication, "Veterans Benefits for Older Americans," is available free through VA regional offices and veterans service organizations. Deaths WALTER BOTH Walter E.
