In an effort to encourage par­ ticipation by former students, they will sponsor an essay contest on "What Catholic Education Meant to Me". The winning essays will be read at the Sunday Masses March 29. The deadline for entries is March s. Essays should be sent to Montini Middle school, 1405 N. Richmond road, McHenry, and must include name, address, phone, age, and the years attended at Montini. The school, which resulted from the consolidation of the parish schools of St. Patrick's and St. Mary's, will celebrate their an­ niversary from March 28 through April 4, the entire highlighted special activities that will include the students, parents, and the interested public. Those former students or parents who have photographs of Montini students and events they would be willing to loan for picture displays during the celebration, should drop them off at the Middle school. All photos properly labeled with the owner's name and address will be returned at the conclusion of the anniversary. P.T.O.-DISTRICT 12 The Johnsburg P.T.O. is planning its annual play Sunday, March 15, at 2 p.m., and again the following weekend, on Friday, March 20, and Saturday, March 21. Both performances are at 8 p.m., at the Johnsburg high school auditorium. Tickets will be available at the door. The play will consist of three acts; two comedies and one drama. Please give them your support and mark your calendar now. Also, in the works is the upcoming talent show, to be held on March 31. VOTER REGISTRATION March 9 is the last day to register to vote on April 7. THEATER ...last weekend put on its annual dinner-theatre, entitled "You Can't Take It With You." Presenting the characters were 19 high school students. This was the largest number of people ever assembled on the high school stage for a non-musical production. An excellent performance was given by the following students: Debbie Swinford, Kathy Wester, Cheryl B'urkhardt, Hoagy Dix, Dooley Stanell, Brian Conant, Brent Birkhoff, Tom Liston, Marilyn Helsing, Gary Selof, Paul Metzger, Mark Leslie, Melissa Russell, Bob Baker, Karen Alvord, John Armon, Doug Wickman, Phil Kalsch and Cindy Ahlert. Roger Zawacki was the director. The dinner served was excellent and was prepared by the high school Foods class, including salad, Lasagna and dessert. Preparation of the food and serving were Nancy Bar- nings, Grace Beaman, Angle Ciura, Patti Freeland, Stacy Gast, Angie Kinney, Terry Knauf, Karla Muse, Charise Nielsen, Cindy Parsons, Mary Kay Rorig and Leslie Warp. The next production coming up is the Spring musical • "Damn Yankees," <m May 7, 8 and 9. The high school theatre will appreciate any donations of old furniture, old clothes and miscellaneous, which could be used for props. GIRL SCOUT SUNDAY Girl Scout Sunday will be observed March 8 at St. John's church during the noon Mass. All Girt Scouts in the area are urged to attend this service, wearing their uniforms. Give $500 Scholarship For Nursing Education The auxiliary to McHenry hospital is pleased to offer a scholarship amounting to $500 per year, applicable to nursing education only. Any young man or woman who has the necessary qualifications for entrance to the career of nursing which he or she elects to follow is eligible to apply for this scholarship. A student should be prepared to offer a year's service to McHenry hospital after graduation. Applications are available in school offices. They must be completed and mailed by April 1 of the current year to Mrs. Lillian Bolger, 3803 W. Clover, McHenry. The winner will be selected before the closing of the current school term. The selection of winner is made by a committee comprising the scholarship chairman, president of the auxiliary, and the director of nurses. _ Judging is based on school grades, work experience, character, as displayed in the theme required, and finally, on need.
