New Goals For fYour P^ ActOrS StudiO 1 Officer Jim Fitzgerald The McHenry Actors studio, emerging with new ideas, is a non-profit organization started in 1976 for the purpose of promoting communication through the dramatic arts media. It strives to help the com munity generally, and the members especially, to develop those skiiis necessary to convey their feelings and values to each other. The means employed are mainly study, and a workshop environment in which membehs share ideas and help each other gain experience. As individuals, or as a group, they may produce, promote, or sup port performances which convey an uplifting message. The group also is willing to serve as an in formation center for the performing artists in the area, to promote cooperation of the various groups and endeavors In January, 1978. a regular weekly drama class for young students was started. Children from the neigh borhood stopped in after school to learn the fun damentals of acting, as well as hear about the other aspects of production and appreciation Since then, some of the students have advanced considerably in capabilities. And some adults have ex pressed interest in taking theater seriously. So this January a new continuing workshop was initiated, and notices put in the paper. The response was very en couraging. The group meets in the evening for three hours of discussion, reading and acting exercise. As there are new people every session, time is also taken to get acquainted. When the workshop becomes more settled, lectures and other special activities will , probably be scheduled. By now there are so many children interested and already participating that it has become necessary to start a special children's workshop after school again. The youngsters' interests tend to be more active than those of the older members. Both of the groups are still open to new membership The MAS has other projects in mind--a theater library, one-act festival, a community theater and Cable TV Send comments to Bob Nowicki, 4010 N. March 8. at 6:30 p.m at Chain O' Lake's Evangelical Covenant church. 4815 N. Wilmot road. This presentation will be the first service in a series of special Sunday evening services during Lent at the church The movie is a faithful recreation of St Luke's Gospel produced by the Genesis Project, a group of people dedicated to putting the message of the whole Bible in the contemporary media of films. Unlike mo6t other similar length films on the life of Christ. "Jesus" was filmed entirely in the Holy Land and His words, with minor exception, are taken directly from the Bible. It helps one believe in miracles and is being used as a mission tool in many countries In the coming months and years, tens of millions of people will have the opportunity to "see" Jesus as they view the motion picture"Jesus" and hear Jesus speak their language. As of Oct. 1, 1980, 31 major language tran slations were completed and the film is currently being shown in places such as Thailand, India, the Philippines, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Spain, Swit zerland and Greece The public is cordially invited to come and view the film. There will be no charge; however, an of fering will be received to aid further translation and missionary use of the film The public is also invited to share in the special ser vices to be held on sub sequent Sunday evenings, 6 30 p.m . through April 12. The church will be featuring a local gospel group. Isaiah 53, another film from the Genesis Project "Noah", a brother-sister gospel concert and testimony, a challenging film, "Discover Your Gifts", and a .special Easter can tata, "Worthy is the Lamb", performed by church members. FRONT ROUTE 31 McHENRY 5-9 * * * * * There are a couple of new signs around town that change the turning at certain intersections, and I thought that I'd tell you about them now begore you are told iKom from another officer in a squad car First, at Front and Elm: if you are going east on Elm street (Rt. 120 > and want to use the cut off to go Publ ic Relat ions Of f icer McHenry Ci ty Po l ice Phone 385 2131 south on Front street, the cut-off is no longer a yield turn, but is now a stop, unless the traffic light for eastbound Elm street is green. Watch yourselves at this corner because it is very easy to do a rolling stop turning here when the light is red You can turn right on the red light but you must stop first » * * * * * * * * * * * * By the way, I should remind you that on all right turn on red turns, you must always first stop at the light before you go ahead and turn. I have seen many people never even slow down at the light and just roll right through the light and turn onto the intersecting street. Remember that you must stop first, or you can get a ticket. The next street that has been changed slightly, is at Grwn stPA^t and F.lm Street for northbound Green street. It used to be that if you were northbound on Green street at Elm street, and there were cars in front of you wanting to turn left, you could move to to the right hand lane and proceed across Elm street around the waiting cars to continue north on Green street. There is now a sign there\which makes it illegal to do anything but turn right onto Elm street to go east from that lane When coming out of the new Green street parking lot, which exits onto Elm street across from the fire house, you can now only PAGE 17 - PLAINDhALFK I- HilmY. MARCH 8,1981 turn right onto eastbound eastbound Elm street and not left onto westbound elm ' street. People waiting to turn onto westbound Elm street used to either wait forever to make the turn, or used to pull onto the street and block traffic so that they -could turn left, which was not only illegal, but very dangersous as well. Lastly, in all turns, please use your turn signals whenever you do turn This is only a common sense thing since you already have them, and you let your fellow drivers know what you are planning to do no*f u;ook - / AGRICULTURE ADVISORY Congresswoman Lynn Martin (Rill) has an nounced the formation of an Agriculture Advisory committee, consisting of 20 farmers and leaders of the agricultural community throughout the 16th Congressional district.
