It's-just O'Me sayin' . Happy St. Patrick's Day! Catherine Heaney % friend John LOOM sent some lines heard during visit* to Notre Dame in his leader years, but they will be reserved. He adds: ( Another bit of Irish lore - the oft used expression has bete abbreviated. When first , delivered by ancient Irish seafarers, it was, "and may the wind be ever at your back - especially when spitting over the rail." Irish Parody In the shade of the old apple tree Sat two Irishmen as wet as could be. Said Pat to his friend, "There's a fly on the end Of my nose, won't you smash it for me?" Now Pat's friend was a regular guy and a shillelagh he found lying close by. Oh he smashed the fly flat And they buried poor Pat In the shade of the old apple tree. Author unknown Compliments - Vince Adams At. Patrick's Day Oh, my mother isn't Irish and my father isn't, too, but today I feel as Irish as the really Irish do- For today I wear a shamrock that is very green and gay, and though I'm mostly Yankee, I am Irish for today! Aileen Fisher Some of thoaeSt. Patrick's Day cards we received are rib ticklers. Marie O'Corso sent one with an orange tag to be worn if you want to stand out on the big day. Stand out? I wouldn't be able to stand up if I met some Micks while wearing that. But, Marie enclosed a green carnation to war to take the curse off the tag. And -- if we had any idea of drinking and getting boistrous, "Biff" and Esther Meyer wanted to join us. How I love all those cards! Dorothy Uttich phone from the McHenry Library with an invitation to visit the library historical room, saying: "Since you are the grandfather of the Idea". Librarian June Stuart and Dorothy were very gracious in showing me the room and the progress that has been made in arranging pictures, maps and papers. Like the entire library, the room is systematic and neat. You are urged again to send in family histories, church records of a historical nature and anything to record the history of our area. The girls stressed the fact that if you do not wish to part with papers they can make photo-copies. Another item. Do you know where to And a 1902 history book of McHenry County? „ This small historical room will grow. It is rolling. Let's keep up the good work. Future generations will treasure these items. The phone did ring and whaddoyaknow, we got a rise out of a Cub fan. Yep Herb Reihansperger read our comment about the White Sox having the best pitching staff in the major leagues. Herb's trouble is that he thinks Lon Warneke, Charlie' Root, Guy Bush, Pat Malone and the likes are still pit ching for thej£ube. He did mention a couple of other teams that are sup posed to have fair to middlin' pitching staffs. Herb did ring in that other Cub fan who has been so quiet, George (Junior) Freund. What Junior said about me, Herb doesn't want quoted. Glad to know that I stirred those sleeping Cub fans into action.
