Doran, regional postmaster general for the 13-state central region. Ms. Swearingen began her postal career at the Wonder Lake post office in June, 1969, as a sub-rural carrier and in January, 1972, she transferred to the Ringwood post office as a distribution clerk. She and her husband. Ralph, reside in Wonder Lake. They have two children and are the proud grandparents of five. Postmasters are selected on merit, based on recom­ mendations, by a management selection board, and appointed by the postmaster general, Ap­ pointments are not subject to Senate confirmation. FRONT ST,, McHENRY REPLACEMENT TAXES Checks totaling $67.6 million in corporate personal property replacement taxes have been sent to local units of government, according to J. Thomas Johnson, director of the Illinois Department of Revenue. The second of eight payments to be made during 1981, the replacement taxes substitute for funds lost to local governments when the corporate personal property tax was abolished by the 1970, state con­ stitution. The largest share of this replacement tax money, 52 percent, goes to the state's 1,018 public school districts. Burial in one of the Veterans Administration's 109 national cemeteries is provided, on a space available basis, to eligible veterans and their depen­ dents The Veterans Ad­ ministration runs the largest medical system in the nation, with 172 medical centers, 226 outpatient clinics, 92 nursing home^ and 16 domiciliaries ( I
