JUNIOR HIGH During the Junior High Mini Course week, fifteen eighth-grade students took advantage of a chaperoned ski trip to Colorado. -^Participating in the trip were Chap Hughes, Scott Schultz, Betty Novak, Matt Gockel, Nicki Berns, Rich Thayer, Nikki Stanley, Tom Kinney, Cindy Swinford, Kevin Nielsen, Emily Hueman, John Gallagher, Maureen O'Connor, with Mr. and Mrs Larry Reinhard, and their two children, Billy and Andy, as chaperons The group stayed in condominium apartments near the ski areas of Keystone, Copper and Arapahoe Basin EXPLORERS Another group of local residents went on a trip of another gender by canoe, Saturday. April 11 This is the account I received upon the return of Ricky Smith, Don Berlin, Jerry DeWulfe, Mike Clark. Ron Rich, Dave Kuczwara, Harlan Bean. John Ball and Dick Wantuk. These nine intrepid Johnsburg explorers put their trusty crafts into the rain swollen waters of Nippersink creek at the Wonder Lake canoe landing. As luck would have it, the threatening rains held off for the worried band. Through the chutes, over white water, on they went, undaunted by the fact of a tipped canoe and two wet explorers Retrieving the canoe the group pushed on down the creek, over rapids, under trees and bridges of little country roads. Now ahead lay the great waters of Pistakee Lake. The wind began to rise and the waves got higher. But, they pressed on across the lake and into the great Pox River. As they approached shore at last, the smell of a huge pot of chili came to their senses, and dry clothes awaited. A grand time was had eating and retelling of the heroics of the day.
