Jaycees Send Four BIBLE VERSE To Camp New Hope Thousands of children and adults with developmental disabilities have found new hope in Camp New Hope The MeHenry Area Jaycees chapter, in cooperation with 400 Illinois Jaycees chapters, sponsor Camp New Hope, which offers special education for exceptional people in a barrier-free facility during the summer months This carefully designed camp accommodates 600 resident campers and 400 day campers a season Each person attending the camp finds a dedicated staff who maintain top standards of special education, usually on a ratio of one counselor to two campers. Several goals are ac complished during the stay of the camp's special residents Those goals are the real meaning and pur pose of sending "campers". They are managing multiple disabilities, optimum use of senses, a taste of nature, physical and psychological development, new depth of friendships, moments of success and warm pleasure, and a bridge to independent living through life-task achievement This summer the MeHenry Area Jaycees are sponsoring four children to attend the camp which is located near Mattoon, 111 The chapter assumes the full $300 cost of sending each sponsored child Also, the chapter is defraying any cost of transportation for these special people The children were recently selected from a list of possible "candidates" by a committee of Jaycees in the local chapter, and the parents of the chosen children will be notified. The selection process was a difficult one. The needs of the emotionally and developmentaHy han dicapped are so varied, that each case was considered separately. Were it possible, the committee would ap prove all those names considered. However, due to camp space allocations, only four could be sent this season. The monies used to send people to Camp New Hope are set by the Jaycees during their various find- raising projects during the year These include the Chicken Bar-B-Q, which is held during MeHenry Fiesta Days, a Brat-Feed which is held in Johnsburg. a Canoe Race on the Fox river, which is run at the MeHenry city beach in the fall, and Christmas tree sales, recently held Other miscellaneous activities and projects also contribute funds. There is also an on-going "Build New Hope" building fund to which the MeHenry Jaycees send contributions to every year The money sent to this fund is raised during other projects: the Jaycees run, Christmas Rose day. a Camp New Hope run for running enthusiasts, joggers, and civic-minded hoofers; an art auction, and, sure-to-be a success, a large fun-filled carnival to be run by the Jaycees in June. Sponsoring Camp New Hope, is a clear example of the scope and purpose of the Jaycees - dedication to the improvement of the in dividual and the community* '/ am he that liveth, and was dead; behold I am Alive for evermore... and have the keys of hell and death.
