Wonder Lake Scouts To Aid Recycling Wonder Lake Boy Scout Troop 145 chose to work at both the first and third Saturday recycling drives in McHenry this month in order to provide a social service and also to earn funds to send some of their boys to summer camp Members of the troop and parents will be working along with the McHenry County Defenders at the Market Place Saturday. May 16, from 9 a m until 1 p.m helping to unload cars and prepare the materials for the next step toward recycling. Now that the drives are held twice a month the hours are shorter. Those who have been recycling for many years are asked to make a note of this change in hours Citizens may bring in material anytime before 1 p.m. but are asked not to drop it off after that time For those becoming in volved in recycling for the first time, the following -guidelines should be of help. Newspapers-should be stacked and tied securely so that they can be easily handled by the homeowner and the workers at the drive No plastic bags or slick paper should be included in these bundles. Free twine is available at the drives for the asking Corrugated cardboard- should be broken down, flattened and tied in bundles. A minimal amount of magazines can also be ac cepted These should also be tied. Glass containers-should be rinsed of their food content and have any metal or plastic removed, which includes the narrow metal bands that are on some wine bottles Clear, green and brown glass is accepted Please do not bring light bulbs or crockers. Steel ("tin") cans-should be rinsed of their food content. have labels removed and be flattened to conserve space. The easiest way to flatten steel cans is to cut off the bottom just as the top was removed and then step on the can. Aluminum products-only all aluminum cans are ac ceptable for pay back Bi metal cans (aluminum tops with steel sides and bottoms) cannot be recycled at all. Other aluminum products, such as TV dinner trays, clean foil, aluminum siding etc , can be dropped off with other recyclabies at the drive. Used motor oil-should be brought in a secure con tainer Facilities are now available for emptying 5 gallon containers and returning the containers to the owner. Isabels from certain food products are also accepted at the drive and are turned over to Pioneer Center for the Exceptional, where they are used to purchase physical education equip ment The list of products from which labels are ac cepted are posted at the drive on the outside of the container in which they can be deposited. Recyclers are reminded that the pay-back program for aluminum cans is in effect only on the first Saturday of each month. Anyone in need of further information regarding the recycling of material, please call the McHenry County Defender representative at 385-8512 • • • • No business enterprise grows unless it is pushed by someone with brains and energy. People either don't understand or are afraid to talk about it. But I'm empty. I try not to let it bother me. but I can't help it. Sometimes at night it hurts bad. Even in happy moments there is something missing. I've tried drinking and drugs, but when I come down from being high I still feel empty. I have a lover; we really love each other and plan to be married. But there's still something inside me that isn't beinq filled What's wrong with me? Why can't I be content with life? Dear EMPTY EMPTY Vour experience is common to many people. The achievement of our social and material goals has not brought happiness or emotional satisfaction. Yet many people I talk with will not ad mit to that emptiness. For a cure, we must follow three steps: (1) recognize that we are empty inside; (2) do not let our pride be an obstacle to seeking help; and (3) seek help that has proven itself effective. A source I have found effective to "fill up" your emptiness is the book of John, particularly chapter 4. verses 7-42 and chapter 3. verses 3- 21. Mr. Sofia adv.
