JEFFREY STERN Exchange Wedding Vows Escorted down the aisle by her brother, David Stenson, the former Theresa Stenson approached the altar of St. Mary's Catholic church in Burlington, Wis. M^y 8, to exchange promises of marriage with Jeff Stern. The bride is the daughter of Betty Stenson of Ger- mantown. Wis. Walter and Ruth Stern of Waterford, Wis. are the parents of the groom. Father Robert Gosma officiated at the 6 p.m. solemnization and Oswald Markeland, a brother-in-law of the groom, sang "My Sweet Lady", "Annie's Song", "The Lord's Prayer" and "The Wedding Song", accompanied on the piano by Sister Marianne. Kristy Pavlovich, a sister of the groom, gave a nuptial reading and the groom's younger brother, Chris Stern, gave an appropriate response. TTie bride wore a white gown with a pleated full skirt, highlighted with a ruffle flounce. The fitted bodice had a stand-up lace collar, sheer inset ruffled yoke, accented with lace appliques. Ruffles forming a V-shape, extended from the yoke to the waist. The full sheer sleeves were cuffed with a wide band of lace, and trimmed with a ruffle. Her fingertip veil, edged with a single row of embroidered flowers, was secured to a pleated lace cap. She carried a bouquet of silk daisies in rainbow colors. Attending the bride as her maid of honor was Joan Golembiewski of West Allis, Wis. Bridesmaids were a sister of the bride, Jean Stenson, Germantown, Wis., Ramopa Powell, Kenosha, Wis., and Naomi Vyvyan, Union Grove, Wis., both friends of the bride. Carrying out the 'rainbow' theme, attendants were attired in sleeveless, floor length dresses, in solid colors of blue, pink, yellow and lavender, featuring a matching sheer, floral print shoulder cape. They carried bouquets of rainbow color silk chrysanthemums and a white silk daisy adorned their hair. Handling the duties of best man was the groom's brother, Don Stern, Menomonee -Falls, Wis. Groomsmen were Steven Stern, Waterford, Wis., the groom's brother; and friends of the groom, Paul Warick, Burlington, Wis. and Daniel Fregien, Waterford, Wis. The bridegroom and his attendants wore silver grey tuxedos and boutonnieres in colors coinciding with the dresses of their partners. The mother of the bride chose a floor length, long- sleeved gown with a floral print on a pale blue background. A deep pink chiffon, floor length gown, with a pleated skirt, long sleeves and high neck, was the choice of the groom's mother. After the ceremony, a reception for 350 friends and relatives was held at the Veterans Memorial building, Burlington. The guests enjoyed a delicious dinner which had been prepared by the groom's mother, assisted by her sisters, Mary Runkel and Irene Schmidt, and dancing followed. The new Mrs. Stern graduated from Burlington high school in 1979, attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison, for one year, and is presently employed as an order processor for Brake Parts company, McHenry. Her husband, a graduate of Waterford high school in 1976, is the new Sports editor for the McHenry Plain- dealer. They are residing on James street, McHenry. The bride was guest of honor at a pre-nuptial shower hosted by the groom's mother. The skirt flowed into a chapel length train. Her headpiece was trimmed with lace matching the bridal gown. The maid of honor was Marti Baker of Clinton, 111. Bridesmaids were Kathy Smith and Carol Herrmann, both of Mcrtenry; and Joyce Robinson of Gardner, 111. Attendants were attired in yellow qiana dresses with accordian .pleated skirts and a draped bodice. The best man was Dr. Ken Kraudel of Springfield. Groomsmen were Bill Herrmann of McHenry; Dr. Michael McLaughlin of Oak Park, 111.;1 and Kevin Volker of Clinton, 111. The mother of the bride wore a light aqua qiana, long-sleeved dress with pleated skirt and lace bodice. A sleeveless lace jacket complimented the ensemble. A lavender voile dress with long sheer sleeves and belted waistline was the choice of the groom's mother. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Johnsburg Community club for 175 friends and relatives. The newlyweds will make their home in Springfield upon their return from a honeymoon in Michigan. The bride, a graduate of McHenry Community high school and Parkland college, is employed as an animal health technician. Woman's Club Slates End Of Year Luncheon The Whispering Oaks Woman's club will close its club year May 20, with a Spring luncheon at the Appletree in Holiday Park. Chairman Clara Bender has arranged for a very 'entertaining program by "The Bailey Girls" from Hebron. These ladies have written a book on family history dating back 200 years. They will present the story in costume and it should be most interesting to those who have resided in the McHenry county area for many years, as well as to all newcomers. Wonder Lake Seniors Hold Meeting-Luncheon The Wonder Lake Senior Citizen club held a luncheon on their regular meeting day. May 4, at Christ the King church hall. It was enjoyed by 125 senior citizens and their friends. Club members were saddened by the death of their newly elected president, Mary Cholera, who passed away April 23. Everyone will miss her, as she was a very energetic person. Blood pressures will be taken at the next meeting, May 18, from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., for all senior citizens of Wonder Lake. The regular meeting will follow, at which time a new president will be installed. It is hoped that there will be a good turnout of members. The event, an old-time country fair, is being held 8anday, May 17, from noon to < p.m., on the Woodstock square. At Fair Diddley there is something for everyone. Besides 200 craftsmen and 50 artists hawking their wares, there are activities for everyone. "Show Diddley" in the historic Woodstock Opera House, with its magic, clowns, songs and puppets, is. especially for children. Also for children on Dean street, there will be a row of games with prizes and a Moonwalk at the end of the street. Clowns, balloons and painted faces will add to the festive atmosphere. Bargains will be offered at the Mental Health Resource league booths, featuring toys, books and children's clothes. Free entertainment on the bandstand includes the Woodstock City band at 11:15 a.m., the McHenry county chapter of Sweet Adelines at noon, and the Marian Jazz band at 1 p.m. At 2 p.m., a dance studio will present dancing apti gymnastics. Three o'clock will bring the Cary-Grove high school Show Chorale to the band stand. At 4 p.m. the lively dancing of McHenry county square dancers will be featured and at 5 p.m. the Woodstock high school Stage band will perform. This free-admission benefit is sponsored by the Mental Health Resource league for McHenry county. The organization funds various mental health services throughout McHenry county by providing funding for equipment, continuing education for professionals and various other programs that aid the handicapped and mentally ill. Wonder Lakers Organize 'Happy Homemakers9 Unit The newest unit of M c H e n r y C o u n t y Homemakers Extension association is the Happy Homemakers unit in Wonder Lake. They will meet Monday, May 18, at 1 p.m., in the home of Marge Dugan. Due to a conflict in schedules, this is a change from the usual meeting day, which is the third Wed nesday of the month. Co-hostess for the meeting will be Nancy Fallaw. The lesson, titled, "Getting Your Act Together", will be presented by Betty Wheaton Marge Dugan and Ar- menie Bach attended the annual meeting of the M c H e n r y C o u n t y Homemakers Extension association in April. Marge Dugan carried the unit's banner in the parade of flags. They will give a brief report of their day spent with h o m e m a k e r s f r o m throughout McHenry county. The Homemakers Ex tension association is open to all McHenry county residents regardless of race, creed, sex or religion. One need not live in Wonder Lake to belong to the Happy Homemakers. It is a new unit and welcomes anyone who finds the meeting time convenient. Anyone wishing more information regarding this particular unit is urged to call 653-6231 or the Extension office. Honeymoon In Florida A two-week stay in Florida was in the honeymoon plans of newly married Mr. and Mrs. John Weyland, who will reside at 327 W Prairie street, Apt. 3, Marengo, III. upon their return. The former Sharyn Wilson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore S. Wilson, 20916 River road, Marengo, exchanged promises of marriage with John Weyland, son of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Weyland, 1609 N. Riverside drive, McHenry, May 9. The Reverend Kroll of ficiated at the 5 p.m ceremony in St. John's United church of Christ in Union, 111. before an altar decorated with two floral bouquets. Special music included "Longer", "The Rose" and "One Hand, One Heart". The bride wore a princess styled gown trimmed with lace, featuring a cape that flowed into a train. A picture hat completed the look. Her bridal slip was trimmed with lace taken from the dress her grandmother had worn at her own wedding. A friend of the bride, Geraldine Kanaly, was the matron of honor. A long-sleeved, violet, street length designer dress with pleated bodice and skirt was the choice of the groom's mother. After the wedding, the Union American Legion was the setting for a reception at which 200 guests toasted the couple. Scrolls were distributed by Donovan and Sarah Weyland, and Barb McPherson circulated the guest book. The bride graduated from Marengo high school in 1978 and is an assistant manager at Brandt's Pharmacy in Marengo.
