Miss Eileen Mae Fit­ zgerald and pupils of the Clemens school and Miss Gertrude Fitzgerald and pupils of Barrington visited places of educational in­ terest in Chicago. The trip was made by a special bus. leaving early in the morning and returning in the evening Fred Holly, at Lily Lake, reports that his new Kay-See orchestra, which will furnish music at the pavilion every Wednesday and Saturday night, will just make you dance. Andrew Worick. a professional photographer in McHenry. has again'proven hjs skill at his profession by carrying off a blue ribbon and three gold medals of recognition at the annual exhibition of the Illinois Photographers association The Illinois House ap­ proved a proposal which will pave the way to empower the state General Assembly to exempt food from the state sales tax. There is an air of ex­ citement at the local high school as juniors and seniors prepare for the annual spring prom. Last minute decorations are being put in place in the huge gym. where dancing will continue until midnight. From there, the young people will go to the Country club, where members of the Kiwanis clubs have prepared some fine entertainment for the post prom party. Postmaster LeRoy M Smith announced that in­ creases in most postage rates will take effect May 16 as the new United States Postal Service begins its task of achieving self suf­ ficiency as required by the Postal Reorganization act. First class letter rates will raise from 6 to 8 cents an ounce, and airmail letter rates from 10 to 11 cents an ounce Post cards will go from 5 to 6 cents each. For outstanding ac­ complishments in heading the McHenry Chamber of Commerce. Larry Lund, publisher of the Plaindealer, was recognized at the annual C of C dinner dance as that organization's "Man of the Year" for 1971. Governor Dave O'Neal to coordinate a comprehensive Illinois coal promotion program, which will bring together the best of both state and private resource®. The Lt. Governor will chair a council whose goals are to expand markets for Illinois coal; intensify efforts to attract and develop a world class synthetic fuels in­ dustry, and streamline the process for granting permits for major energy develop­ ment projects in the state.
