MAY M, 1*1 Wonder Lake Anne Sowers 653-9549 Select Three t To Boys State Three Wonder Lake boys will be attending boys State at Eastern Illinois university in Charleston from June 6-13, through the generosity of the American Legion and the Wonder Lake area .Kiwanis. John Hendrich is being sponsored solely by the American Legion; John Wisner and Randy Beyer are being co-sponsored by the American Legion and the Kiwanis. "Boys State is a shorty, course in practical civics. It is a plan for training in the -Junctional aspects of citizenship." It shows how B government works. While there, boys may run for public office, from alderman to governor, and are elected by the other residents of boys State. To be selected to Boys State, a boy must be between 15-18 years. Boys are selected who are representative of their school and community, and who will benefit by the training.. This will be the last general meeting of the club year until September. Plans for the House Walk and Swim lessons will be finalized at this meeting. The program for the May meeting will be a timely one, "Gardening With Flowers and Other Things", given by Carlene Hougen of the McHenry County college. Hostesses for the evening will be Gladi McGibbon, Pat Reinhardt, Barb Rizzo, Kay Rolow, and Ruth Zapel. Dues for the 1961-82 club year will be accepted at this meeting. SPECIAL DAYS Happy birthday to Gladi McGibbon, who will be celebrating her special day tomorrow, May 21. BOYS BASEBALL Anyone wandering past the ball fields at Harrison school or Christ the King lately, can hear the crack of the bat and see many young men working on their plays. All the managers and coaches have been working hard to schedule practices (and then reschedule after the rain stops!) getting their teams ready for the opening games to be held Monday, May 25. Managers in the minor league for the coming year are: Brewers, Jerry Graff; Red Sox, \Jike Ciszek; Cubs, Ed Sanders; Dodgers, Bill Stutz; Pirates, Jamie Fung; and Braves, Doug Sellek. Major league managers are: Yankees, Clarence Adams; Angels, Ralph Diederich; Tigers, Ed Lubben; White Sox, Dave Sellek; and Indians, Frank Jackson. There are two 13-year-old teams this year. The Hanson Decorating team is managed by Marty Sobczak and the Brush In by Chuck Sowers. Our three Teener teams are the Blues, managed by Rich Gonzalez, the Phillies, managed by Jeff Johnson, and His and Hers Beauty Shop, managed by Don Crook. All minor league games will be played at Harrison school on Monday and Wednesday evenings beginning May 27. The majors play at Christ the King on Tuesdays and Thursdays except for the opening day when two gpmes will be played Monday evening, May 25. The 13-year-old teams have a variable schedule and play all their games at the McHenry VFW. Their season began May 10, which will be made up at a later date since they began the season ty being rained out! The Teenrs pfc$ all their games at Petersen park in McHenry beginning May 31. They also have a variable schedule playing during the week and weekends. * FINE ARTS PROGRAM On May 15, Greenwood CTO held their last program of the yepr, a Fine Arts program. Student's art work was on display throughout the building and in the classrooms. The fifth grade band and chorus displayed their talent to all in at­ tendance. The election of CTO of­ ficers for the 1961-82 school year was held with Lisa Kelly taking over as president, Dans Wallace as vice-president, Joanne Coangelo as treasurer, and Pat Reinhardt as secretary. Ice cream and cookies were served to all the children while coffee was enjoyed by the adults. STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD McHenry students ranked well when the Twelfth An­ nual Business Education Competition day was held at Rock Valley Junior college in Rockford. Students from both McHenry high school East and West campuses participated in the contest along with students from 20 other high schools. Four McHenry high school students placed in the competition. Those students who received medals and ribbons for their per­ formances were: Sandeep I^ahoti, second in Business Math; Mary Anne Lange, fourth in Shorthand I; Gabi Suhr, fourth in Bookkeeping; Adam Wohlbrandt, fifth in Comprehensive Business. Other students entered in the competition in seven different business course areas were Sue Lidbury, Bookkeeping; Tom Bohac, Comprehensive Business; Gina Lindemann, Shorthand II; Terri Blume, Typing I; and Jeanette May, Typing II, West campus; Carol Koffend, Shorthand I; Deanne Brook, Typing I; and Cynthia Carlson, Typing II, East campus. In First Communion Class At St. Mary's On Sunday, May 17, 64 children from the Church of St Mary of the Assumption partook, for the first time, in celebrating the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. The 2 p.m Mass was celebrated by the Rev. James G. Gaynor. pastor. Catholics believe that Communion is the reception of Christ's body and blood under the appearances of bread and wine. By receiving Communion they unite themselves to Jesus and receive grace into their souls. The other sacraments contain gifts of God. but Catholics believe the Holy Eucharist contains God Himself.
