i i i i i m v , r \ v * s ANIMAL WELFARE ASSOCIATION P O Box 205 • Crystol Loke Illinois 60014 • (815) 459 2641 by Joan Dietrich As Helping Paws volun teers, my husband Tom and I do "follow-up" work, which involves visiting homes where Helping Paws animals have been adopted. We have visited many homes over the past few years and we find it fun and pleasant to meet the people and the animals. - ' J One thing we were sur- l' prised to discover is that most homes we visit have more than one cat. As cat lovers and owners ourselves, we highly recommend having a pair of cats (or more) rather than one cat. We had a single cat for nine years and never knew what we and our cat were missing. A few years ago we found a kitten on Christmas eve, and our nine-year-old male cat was thrilled. He acted like a mother, washing the kitten and snuggling up with it. As the kitten grew, they became real playmates, and. I'm convinced our older cat has stayed young bcause of this We now have three cats, and it is a joy to watch them together. We hope that anyone with one cat will consider adding another one to the family. The cats will really enjoy the com panionship and they'll provide hours of en tertainment for you and your family. Just a warning - there may be several days for a "period of adjustment" when the cats will spit, hiss and avoid each other, but they will get over this and become good friends All pet adoptions must be validated by the signing of a contract along with the adoption fee for all cats, which includes the cost of the spay or neuter surgery from a vet of our choice A deduction from the cost of the surgery is made if done by a vet of your choice When adopting a pet through Helping Paws please, for your future reference, keep name, address and phone number of the person from whom you adopted pet rjWKIS Foft ADOPTION t Female 8-week-old puppy. They appear, on foot or wheels from unexpected places, and more often than not dart into the path of a vehicle which may be traveling at the posted speed limit Drivers should be sure their reflexes are equal to speedometer reading and that their vehicles PAGFTir- PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY.
