(Editor's note: This is another in a series of especially written articles for McHenry County readers. Joseph Cools is a psychologist on the Family Service and Community Mental Health Center staff. Other people, who have experienced severe anger outbursts ih the past, are so afraid of the effects of their own anger that they never allow direct expression of any angry feelings. Superficially, control over one's emotions appears to be a positive personality trait; someone who does not react emotionally is logical, reasonable, mature, friendly, objective and fair However. one un- mistakenably human trait is the presence of very powerful emotions. The person who is so afraid of. anger that he cannot express any anger actually runs the risk of dangerous outbursts, in cluding the potential for violence.
