Carol Cooney of McHenry was winning rider in raising the greatest amount of money through pledges in bike-a-thons which raised a total of $5,500 for the McHenry county unit of the American Cancer society, Ed Egleston, county chairman, has announced. Pledges still to be collected will increase the total by another $3,000, he an ticipates. The money will be used for continued research, education and patient ser vices in areas concerning cancer. Fifty-five people rode in the second annual Bike-a- thon at Woodstock, and their total contribution will ap proach $6,000. A second bike- 't a-thon was held at Algonquin. It will produce a total of $2,500 in con tributions, Egleston said. Wonder Lake Anne Sowers 653-9549 Big Weekend Almost Here This is it -- the big July 4 weekend is only a few days away. The parade is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 4, but if the weatherman doesn't cooperate and should send us some showers, the rain date will be Sunday, July 5. Rain or shine, the Miss Wonder Lake contest will be held July 4, at 1:30 p.m. at the old firehouse on E. Wonder Lake road. Following that, will' be the street dance at 3:30 p.m. The Ski club will be putting on a pre-fireworks show Friday, July 3, beginning at 7 p.m. The fireworks will follow as soon as the sky darkens.', Don't forget to prepare your picnic basket for Sunday, July 5. The com munity picnic will be held at tyarrison-Benwell con servation area next to Harrison school beginning at noon. This will be a weekend for everyone of all ages. FISHING CONTEST Pete Helios, President of Deep Spring subdivision, is planning a fishing contest for the young people of Wonder Lake. He would like to involve as many of the subdivisions as possible so trophies or prizes could be awarded at the end of the season, possibly September. Get your fishing gear ready and as soon as I get get all the particulars, I'll let you know. SWIMMING LESSONS The Red Cross swimming lessons, co-sponsored by the Woman's club and the Kiwanis, will be held from July 13-24. Mr. Pohl is one of those very special people who is loved dearly by the neighborhood children. Even at eighty-eight vearsold, he is considered one of their best friends. Whenever one of the ktds can't be found, we know where to look. Usually at a bench set up in his basement working with scrap boards nails and hammer that are set aside just for them. Mr- Wendell passed away Monday, June 15, after an illness the past" several, months. He had served the village as a trustee for the past few years and his presence will be missed by all. Oak Park avenue, Chicago, 111., 60635. , VILLAGE MEETING The Village of Sunnyside held its second monthly meeting Tuesday, June 16, at the Johnsburg Junior high. Work it being done in Emberwood West sub division to complete it before the July 7 deadline. Weed cutting for the village will begin shortly. Lot owners are advised to get their weeds cut. If the village goes in and cuts the weeds the lot owner will be billed for the work. The death of Trustee Ivar Wendell leaves the board short a member. Donald Truckenbrod, attorney for the village, is checking to see if a special election must be held to fill the vacancy or if the Mayor William Mitchell can appoint someone to fill the vacancy for the remainder of Mr. Wendell's term. (Wendell would have been up for re-election in April of 1963). * The next regularly scheduled meeting of the village will be held Tuesday, July 7, at 8 p.m. HOSPITAL STAY 1 A speedy recovery \ is wished to Shelley Mied- zianowski, daughter of Jan and John Miedzianowski of 1506 Sunnyside - drive. WEED CUTTING 1] * Weed cutting in the Village of Sunnyside began the morning of June 20. "Some villagers were glad to see us", commented Trustee Eichhorn, who is In charge of getting the weeds cut. Others had different opinions. Culverts, trees, bushes were not trimmed; that is the property owner's job. Starting at the south end of the village, all north and south streets to May avenue are completed. Trustee Eichhorn com mented that he noticed a number of vehicles without village stickers. Congratulations to you all and many more happy years together. i ~>rvt Open Auditions For Children's Musical The Woodstock Music Theatre festival announces open auditions for a musical for children entitled "The Prince, the Dwarf, and the Blacksmith's Daughter". The musical will run Saturday and Sunday af ternoons at 1 p.m., Aug. 15 through 30. The musical includes nine men, (three major roles, six supporting roles) and five women, ( one major role, four supporting roles). All supporting players will play several roles. * Auditions will be held Tuesday, July 7, from 1:30 to 4:30 ;.m. and 7 to 10 p.m., Wednesday, July 8, from 1 to 5 p.m., and Thursday, July9, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m. Auditions will be held at the McHenry County college, Room 159. Individual auditions will last about 20 minutes and will include a reading from the script, a brief im provisation and one song.
