Nye, 86, editor and publisher of the Harvard Herald for 23 years, died Friday at the University of Wisconsin hospital in Madison. He Uvea his early life in McHenry. Mr. Nye and his father, Albert, bought the Herald in 1944. After his father's death, the former continued in silent partnership with his mother, Lucille, until 1964. He then acquired her in terests and continued as sole editor and publisher until February, 1967, when he sold the newspaper to B. F. Shaw Printing Co. of Dixon. Shaw owns several newspapers in McHenry county, as well as in Iowa. According to the McHenry County History Book 1832- 1968, the Harvard Herald during Nye's ownership was "known as the most con sistently outspoken editorial voice in the county." His editorial "record was so well established" that when he retired from editing, he was the first newsman to be given the Liberty Bell award by the McHenry County Bar association, the bode con tinues. When Mr. Nye sold the newspaper, he became manager of the Harvard" Chamber of Commerce. He was also editor of the Blackhawk Bulletin. Since 1969, he had lived in Janesville, Wis.' His wife, Evaline Lueck, whom he wed June 24, 1981, lives at their 1202 N. Randall Ave. address in Janesville. Nye's first wife, Armella Haines, whom he wed Nov. 24, 1938, in McHenry died Jan. 3, 1980. He was born July 28, 1914, in McHenry, the son of Albert Nye, then superin tendent of the McHenry school system, and Lucille Gutweiller Nye. He graduated from McHenry high school and enrolled in the University of Illinois. Survivors include three sons, Kendall of Raynham, Mass.; Lowell, Jr., of Louisville, Texas; Gregory of Winona Lake, Ind.; two daughters, Mrs. Marcia Bubrick of Janesville, Wis., and Mrs. Marilee Mosser, Rochelle; nine grand children; two sisters, . Mrs. Ruth 'Wotttnaft of Harvard and Mrs. Rosalind 'Hit- reman, Chicago. He was a member, past Grand Knight, and Fourth degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus; member of the Edgerton Rotary club, South Side Businessmen's association, Janesville Optimist club, and St. Mary's Catholic church. Visitation was held Sunday in Janesville at Schneider Funeral home. Services were held Monday at St. Mary's Catholic church in Janesville. Burial was at St. Joseph's cemetery in Harvard. ROBERT EVERTSEN Robert C. Evertsen, 69, of McHenry,.. formerly of Crystal Lake, died Saturday, July 11, in Memorial hospital for McHenry county, Woodstock. He was born Aug. 17,1911, in Chicago, the son of Robert and Elsie (Hagstrom) Evertsen. On May 1, 1971, in Algonquin, he married Georgiana Hicks, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Herbert of Crystal Lake and Richard of McHenry; a daughter, Donna Pruski of Elgin; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one brother, Edward, Alton; three sisters, Irene Voltmer, La Mesa, Calif., Jane Windt, Melrose Park and Shirley TGyree, Stone Park, 111. Mr. Evertsen was preceded in death by his parents and one son, William. Funeral services were scheduled for Tuesday, 11 a.m., at the Querhammer funeral home, Crystal Lake, followed by burial in Win- dridge cemetery, Cary. Friends called from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. JEANETTE TOMSA Jeanette Tomsa, 82, 1508 Channel Beach road, Sun nyside, died Sunday, July 12, at Crystal Pines Nursing Home, Crystal Lake. She was born Feb. 10, 1899, in Chicago, to Anton and Barbara Fallada. Mrs. Tomsa was born and raised in Chicago and moved to the McHenry area 30 years ago. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic church, Johnsburg; and had received a lifetime pin far serving with the Pink Lady auxiliary of McHenry hospital. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Donald (LaVerne) Davenport, Edmund, Wash, and Mrs. Steven (Marcella) Sopocy, Riverside, 111.; a son Robert, McHenry; 14 grandchildren and eight great* grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband August, on Feb. 21, 1888; her parents and three sisters. A funeral Mass will be conducted Wednesday, 10 a.m., at St. John's church, witt burial in St. Adalbert cemetery, Niles, 111. Visitation was scheduled for Tuesday, from 3 to 9 p.m., at the George R. Jus ten k Son funeral home with a Christian Wake service at 8 p.m. Memorials are requested to the McHenry County Heart fund and the John sburg Rescue squad. , &> GENEVIEVE KNOX A lifetime resident of McHenry, Genevieve Knox, 84, 3411 W. Waukegan road, McHenry, died Saturday, July 11, at McHenry hospital. She was born Dec. 10, 1896, in McHenry, the daughter of Edmund and Johanna Walsh Knox. Miss Knox, a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church, McHenry, was educated in the McHenry public school system, received a degree in Education from Northern Illinois university; attended summer classes at Loyola university; taught in a countryside school in the Elgin and McHenry area for over 40 years; and retired in the early 1960s from McHenry Elementary School District IS. She was a charter member of Catholic Daughters of America; belonged to St. Patrick's Womens Guild; Delta Gamma sorority ; the Legion of Mary and McHenry County Retired Teachers association. Survivors are a sister, Mrs. Carl (Dorothy) Weber, McHenry and 21 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Edwin, Robert and Martin Knox and three sisters, Marguerite and Katherine Conway and Mamie Whiting. Funeral services were scheduled for Tuesday, 11 a.m., at St. Patrick's church, with Father Edmund Petit officiating and burial in the Churchyard cemetery. Visitation was Monday, from 4 to 9 p.m., at the George R. Justen k Son funeral, home. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's church; Masses and the McHenry Area Rescue squad. LESTER ADAMS Lester V. (Virgil) Adams, 4418 W. Ponca street, McHenry, died Saturday, July 11, at McHenry hospital. He was 59 years old, born in Cottington, Wis., Feb. 16, 1922, the son of Lester V. and Pauline Clinge Adams. In 1927, at the age of five, he moved to McHenry. He had been employed as a maintenance engineer for heavy equipment for the Lakeland Construction Co., McHenry. Mr. Adams is survived by his wife Ruth (Ingersol) whom he married April 27, 1948, in McHenry. Other survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Tom (Linda)jPara of McCullom Lake and Mrs. Jim (Sandra) Mickelson of Deerfield, Wis.; a son Don Veenhuis of Ft. Atkinson, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; a brother Vale Adams of McHenry and a sister Mrs. Charles (Eva) Sparks of West Frankfort. 111. Funeral services were scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the Peter M. Justen k Son funeral home, officiated by the Elder Ray Anderson of the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovahs Wit nesses, Woodstock with burial in McHenry County Memorial Park, Woodstock. Adams of McHenry, recently reenlisted in the United States Marine corps for a WEDNESDAY. JULY 15, 1181 period of three years. Presently, Andrew is being trained in the Motor Transportation field. This training is coming from formal schools and on the Job training. He reenlisted at the U.S. Marine corps recruiting station, located at 40 Brinks street in Crystal Lake.
