FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of July 24, 1941). \ On July 29, 14 McHenry county young men will report at the Chicago in duction center to undergo medical examinations prior to being taken into the Army. Those from the McHenry area include Alvin Miller, Ringwood, James A. Thompson. McHenry; Eugene H. Leterman, Spring Grove; and Charles N. Freund of Crystal Lake, formerly of McHenry. Donkey baseball, one of the funniest games ever conceived, is coming to McHenry on July 28. The game is being put on under the direction of "Mac" supervisor of the summer playground activities, and will be played under lights. "Petie" Schaefer will be the umpire. TWENTY-FIVE YEARSAGO (Taken from the flies of July 26, 1956). The Chicagoland Music festival is of special im portance this year for the family and friends of Charles Schlottman, 7, of Wonder Lake, who competed in the Class D accordion contest which included the 6 to 10 age group. He received a 95 percent rating. Eugene Dietle and Carl Tomm, both office holders at Boys State in June, made an appearance on WKRS and did an excellent job of ex plaining to the public the workings of this mythical government designed to teach high school youth citizenship. The City Council met with bui lding contractors , electrical\contractors and plumbing \and heating contractors to discuss proposed changes in the building code for the city, and the possibility of hiring a building inspector. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the *«ftteaM&^ July 28, 1971). A group of disgruntled taxpayers presented a "Bill , of Particulars" against McHenry County Supervisor of Assessments Stanely H. Cornue, to the State Property Tax Appeals board. Spokesman for the group was Mrs. Julia Covert of Cary. Deneval Azevedo Filho of Campos, Brazil, will spend the next?school year with Mr. and Mrs. Cy Broman. He will be under the American Field Service program. He is the recipient of an A.F.S. in ternational scholarship. s McHenry County college has been recognized by the Illinois Junior College board as a Class I junior college, but with probationary status.
