The candidates appeared before judges in premilinary competition that included all aspects of the Wednesday, Aug. 5, finals except questioning. Van Sells, veteran radio personality, served as mistress of ceremonies for the preliminaries. Orion Samuelson, WGN farm director and a vice president of WGN Inc., will emcee the Aug. 5 finals.
