The Big Eight nsd the choice of picking up one, •, but decided two, or time of the school districts, not to accept both Harvard and Johnsburg beause of the travel distance for teams from the south end of the conference. They also explored possibilities of combining the membership of the Big Eight, the Trailbiazers. near Rockford, and the remainder of SHARK to give 17 schools with the possibility of splitting into threre units of six teams, but it dMn't work out. Here's an important looking envelope mat mkea us fumble in anticipation. It is sn invitation to live in a retirement home. The advantages are astounding. Whoops! They give you one meal per day. That does it! Three squares a day is my ides of living. I Headlines are better this Tuesday morning. The Cubs lost to the Mets in 13 innings. That was sad. But, read on. White Sox swamp Boston 7-1. That's one for the road. And there are 15 more games on the road. It was generous of the American League to use all their players in the All-Star game, then wind up without a pinch hitter for their pit cher. Generous, but not smart. Hate to admit it, but the National has more strength when you get psst the starting lineup. They concentrated while the American League ex panded.' Haven't heard from Dick Rabbitt. Wonder if they detained him in Ireland. f i Having had occasion to drive a few roads within a 50- mile radius of McHenry lately, the thought comes to mind that somebody should have given Governor Thompson * bumpy tour when he visited McHenry on Republican Day. Whenever rain comes down it . brings back childhood memories. Our parents sat on the back porch (father smoking his pipe), then when the rain ended the young colts of the family ran barefoot over the wet grass. We bought a small item a short time ago and paid 81-85 for it. Today we bought the same thing and the price was $2.21. If inflation is over, you could fool me. Some people may get tired of hearing about the dangers of bicycle riding, but if it helps to save a child's life, I'll keep harping. Today I saw a grown man, with small child in s basket in back of him, ride his bike right through a stop sign. Still say our guardian angels are the busiest people of all. Cool nights give a person the thought of fall being in the air. We are usually early risers, but lately have found the warm covers hard to leave.
