Ringwood News Doris Low 653-9262 Katy Christopher 385-8037 Reorganize Administration Of Marian High School Sadness Felt In Community The community was greatly saddened this week with the death of one of its longtime residents, Frank Harrison. We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife, Mertie, and family, Evelyn and Allen. SEWING WORK DAY The ladies will meet in the home of Blanche Howe Thursday, Aug. 27, at 10:30 a.m. ALABAMA VISITORS Edith Howton, a former resident and former owner of the little store in town (now run as a catering business by Fritz) visited in the home of June and Bud Oxtoby one day last week. Edith's daughter Doris accompanied her to the Oxtoby's. Doris lives in Chicago and was pleased to have her mom up from Alabama and to visit old friends with her mom. It must have been the week for company at the Oxtoby's because on Wed nesday of last week June's brother Harold Nelson and wife Francis, from Sterling, 111. came a callin'. June's sister nancy Butler; and her mom, Mrs. Theresa Nelson of McHenry, also stopped in to visit. The girls don't get to see brother Harold too often so they took advantage of the time and got a lot of visiting done. NEWCOMERS We wish to welcome Helen Leonard to our community. Helen has been with us for a couple of months now and is residing with her son and daughter-in-law, the John Leonards at 5102 Barnard Mill road. Helen would like to become acquainted with other folks in the area and maybe be able to share a ride into McHenry oc casionally. Giver her a call at 728-0620, ask for Helen, and introduce yourself. Another new couple to the area are Annette and Bill Cunningham, newlyweds of a few months. They reside at 4906 Barnard Mill road. Glad to have you in the neigh borhood. Remember folks, if you don't call one of the numbers listed in the head of this column, we don't always know the details of your moving into the community. Call us, introduce yourself to us and give us the details; we'd love to meet you. We're glad to have you join us and if we can be of any help or give you any information about the community we'd like to hear from you. GOD BLESS Sister Mary , Karen O'Kelly, director of Education for the Diocese of Rockford, has announced the reorganization of the ad ministration of Marian Central Catholic high school, Woodstock. The pastors of the McHenry county deanery, who are responsible for the operation of Marian, together with the Most Reverend Arthur J. O'Neill, bishop of Rockford, have established a Council of Administration made up of the pastors and lay representatives from the Catholic parishes of the area. This body takes the place of the Marian com mission of the McHenry area board of Catholic education which had the responsibility for supervision of Marian in recent years. In speaking of the reorganization, Bishop O'Neill indicated to the pastors that the Catholic secondary school in Woodstock is an extension of all the participating parishes, regardless of the number of pupils who might attend from any parish at a given time; therefore, responsibility for the Slate Conservation Education Programs Accelerated Payments Are Continued For RTA Governor James R. Thompson said that checks totaling $23.5 million were available Friday for the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) as the state continues its accelerated payments to the RTA to help keep the system running. The governor said the RTA will receive $21.3 million, representing its estimated September payment and $2,321,072 due it for August. This is the fourth month the speed-up of payments has been in effect. In May, the governor ordered the monthly RTA payments to be advanced a month in order to help the RTA's cash crisis. The transit authority receives advance payments based on estimates of the amount due it for the next month. Then, when the regular payment time rolls around, it receives a second check for the difference between the estimated amount advanced to it and the actual amount due. In late August, the McHenry County Con servation district will offer two education programs on different sites that are open to the public. Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 4 p.m. there will be a "Toddle" at Deep Cut marsh. Sunday, Aug. 30, from 1:30 to 3 p.m., MCCD volunteers and staff will present Queen Anne Prairie day. The "Toddle" is a program for pre-school aged children and their parents, designed to help parents introduce and share the natural world with their kids. Volunteer (and mother) Maggie Jung leads the monthly Toddle series, which includes a half-hour craft activity related to the day's theme. Completion of a take-home craft item is followed by a half-hour walk along a trail. MCCD encourages mothers or fathers of pre schoolers to try this fun and free experience. Deep Cut marsh is located on Deep Cut road, just north of Rt. 14 about halfway between Branch Court Cases heard recently in Branch court of the 19th Judicial Circuit include: Before Judge Michael Sullivan: Paul G. Bole, of 2908 Hickory, Wonder Lake, fined $50 and costs for disorderly conduct and $50 and costs for obstructing a peace officer. Before Judge Conrad Floeter: Probable cause was found Monday on a charge of unlawful possession of cannabis against Boyd J. Gillan, 204 Nippersink drive, McHenry. • * * • A sense of humor eases life's hard knocks, and prevents embar rassing moments when substituted for irritation. >/< Split rate financing A.P.R. finance charges for the first 11 months y< A.P.R. finance charges for the balance of your contract . . . o n p u r c h a s e o f a n y n e w C a s e f a r m t r a c t o r With Case split rate financing, an Annual Percentage Rate (A P R.) of 10% will be applied for the first eleven months of the contract. Woodstock and Harvard. The 1981 Queen Anne Prairie day is scheduled to match the peak of the prairie season. Guides dressed to recreate the atmosphere of settlers' days will be at several stations around the perimeter of the one-acre prairie cemetery. Both the cultural and the natural history of this never-plowed pioneer cemetery will be interpreted by using early Woodstock area household implements, information on the cemetery itself, and the prairie plants that flourish there today. Visitors can arrive anytime between 1:30 and 3 p.m., and can move at their own pace from station to station around the Queen Anne prairie. A cold beverage will be available at no cost. Located on Queen Anne road, it is just north of Charles road and north of Woodstock. In anticipation of the new Council of Administration's establishment, Sister Ann Rena Shinkey, O.P., for merly director of Curriculum at Boylan Central Catholic high school, Rockford, was appointed principal of Marian, and Thomas Landers, formerly principal of Holy Family school, Rockford, was ap pointed assistant principal. John Burke, who served as assistant principal since 1978, was reappointed to serve in that capacity with Landers. In order to clear up certain difficulties which had arisen at Marian in the past several years, and also to provide optimal conditions for the new administration, the pastors agreed to assume the entire indebtedness of Marian up to and including June 30, 1981. This in debtedness, amounting to $300,000, will be shared among the parishes on a percentage basis, according to the parish annual operations assessment for Marian. Bishop O'Neill authorized each parish to assume this indebtedness, while charging the Council of Administration of the school and the new administration of Marian to insure that such burdens are not allowed to accumulate against the school's operations in the future. In commenting on the situation, Bishop O'Neill stated: "Marian is too im portant an institution, and has too much potential for continued service to Catholic youth to allow its future to be jeopardized by financial lapses. For this reason the heavy burden of past debts was unanimously un dertaken by all the pastors of the area." iQC 3 DOQOOQOOO ̂ Safety Hints By Secretary of State Jim Edgar School is starting soon and I urge all drivers to watch for children when ap proaching school zones.
