He probably didn't realize, however, that the girls team would follow suit and finish there also. The boys varsity squad had a record of 8-5 last year, and to complete the numbers game, they were also fourth in the county meet. Head coach Bill Hutchinson feels that the Warriors should be much improved this season due to the strength of his returning lettermen and the quality of the younger runners that he has coming up. The freshman-sophomore team finished 8-2 last year, and the two losses were by one point each. Led by a pair of outstanding freshmen in Steve Carby and Brian Wright, the squad won the conference meet. "I think we'll do very well this year," said Hutchin son. "We don't have the one outstanding individual, but we've got a very solid team." Last years Most Valuable Player and the 1979 co- winner, Wade Cepulis, heads the list of returning let termen. He finished sixth in the county meet and twenty-third in the state district last year. Now begin ning his senior year, Cepulis has emerged as the team leader by covering 1400 miles in spring and summer workouts, tops among his teammates. . The other MVP from 1979 who will also be a senior this year is Gordy Bourney. Bourney, who finished third at the county meet, was the 1979 and 1980 100 percent man, and finished right behind Cepulis in the state district in twenty-fourth place.
