With .only Joe Bauml and Mike Lawler lost through graduation, the Warriors return six lettermen from the 16-1 squad that finished sixth in the state a year ago. Their only loss was tdrlefending state champion and conference rival Crystal Lake South. McHenry has only two seniors on the squad again this year in Mike Nank and Dan Long. The other retur ning are all juniors: Brad Adams, Mike Bauml, Kirk Barnicle, and Steve Svec. Svec also won the 15-year-old division of the Illinois State PGA Junior Championships earlier this summer. Waiting in the wings are four other junior players that will add depth to the roster: Randy Buenzli, Scott Grady, Rob Mortell, and Steve Stach. Sophomore prospects Bob Gende, Ken Lang, and Tom Neuman will also be vying for a position. Crystal Lake South remains the team to beat, but McHenry's depth should again put them near the top. The Warriors finished third in the conference last year, and also finished second at the Crown and the Lake Forest Invitntionals. STAFF PHOTO • WAYNE GAYLORD Coach's Charlie Cuda remains the "Dean of Coaches" at McHenry high school as he begins his thirty-first year as head golf coach. During that span, he has won the conference tide four times - in 1968, 1971,1977, and 1978. Seven of the last 11 years his teams have been district qualifiers, and his 1977 squad finished third in the state. Cuda received his M.A. degree from Michigan State University where he also played golf and basketball. Before settling in McHenry, he coached for one year at Howe Military School in Howe, Indiana.
