Before cold weather sets in, have your vehicle checked for a faulty muffler or leaks in the exhaust system. Knowing the warning signals of carbon monoxide poisoning (weariness, yawning, dizziness, nausea, headache and ringing in the ears) could sav6 your life. Once this deadly gas is allowed to seep into your vehicle, the only way to fight it is to stop the engine and _get plenty of fresh air. Four simple precautions for you to take to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning are: " 1. Have the exhaust system checked regularly for any leakage. 2. Do not start the engine, run it while parked or drive your vehicle with all of the windows closed tightly. 3. Do not start your vehicle or warm up the engine in a closed garage. 4. Don't allow children access to your car keys. They enjoy imitating adults, but pretending to drive the car could be a game with deadly results. Birth Of St. Francis Commemorated On Monday, Oct. 5 at. the Church of St. Mary of the Assumption, the Montini schools joined with the School Sisters of St. Francis in a Mass commemorating the 800th anniversary of the birth of St. Francis of Assisi. The celebrant was the pastor, Rev. James G. Gaynor. The liturgy was prepared by the eighth grade class. St. Francis born in 1182 in Assisi, Italy was the son d£a rich merchant, Pietro Bernadone and his wife, Lady Pica. Francis was born while his father was away and baptized Giovanni-John, when his father returned from France h^ started calling his son "Fran cesco" and the hickname stuck. He is one of the greatest saints of the church who at the age of 25 heard the following passage from the Gospel changed his life. "Take with you neither gold nor silver...nor a second coat..." Franics left all his possessions and in complete poverty he set out to do the will of God. Francis died Oct. ̂ _1226, He was canonzied less than 2 years later by Pope Gregory IX. He bore the image of Christ's wounds called the stigmata. The School Sisters of St. Francis have served in gun community since 1885. From the beginning the Congregation has followed the Rule of the Third Order of St. Francis. Like Francis, they heard the call, "Go, build my Church." Presently serving the parish of St. Mary's in McHenry are: Sisters Alcuin, Corinne, Laclare, Adria, Marianne, Jean Ann and Edulfa.
