II ill HELPING PAWS ANIMAL WELFARE ASSOCIATION $- \ ' P.O. Box 205 • Crystol Lake Illinois 60014 •(815)459-2641 By Sue Royal Prince, my neighbors' dog, inadvertently was let out of the house during a bad blizzard; he was missing for eight days and there seemed to be no hope. Asking if they called Helping Paws, they said.no. Helping Paws office was called ahd we were given a description of a found dog, part beagle, red collar. It" didn't sound like Prince but we checked it out anyway. The finder had just heard about Helping Paws through a friend and called in the dog the same day I called. It turned out to be Prince, who was happily reunited with his family. However, this story doesn't have a happy ending because he escaped again, with no ID tag and this time he wasn't found. Please get ID tags for your pets so that wlienr found they can be returned home quickly. All pet adoptions must be validated by the signing of a contract along with the adoption fee which includes the cost of the spay or neuter surgery from a vet of HP's choice, or a deduction from the cost of the surgery if done by a vet of your choice. When adopting a pet through Helping Paws please, for your future reference, keep name, address and phone number of the person from whom you adopted pet. ) > DOGS FOR ADOPTION German Shorthair, 1-year male, brown, shots, housebroken, good with pets and children, 459-3716. Recycling Saturday In McHenry Members of the Checkerboard Squares, who have demonstrated their square dancing ability at Fiesta days for a number of years, will be working along with the McHenry County Defenders at this Saturday, Oct. 17 recycling drive. It win ba, as usual, in the southeast corner of the McHenry Market Place parkinglot,from9a.m. until 1 p.m. Citizens are reminded that the drives are over at 1 p.m. and are asked not to leave material after that time. The primary purpose of the drives is to see that materials that can be recycled have a relatively easy avenue through which they can be made into useful products again. In addition to that, the various not-for- PAGE17 - PLAINDE ALER profit groups working on the drives are able to earn some funds for their community and group projects, landfill space is saved and families are able to cut down on the number of trash pick-ups they require. The aluminum pay-back program, initiated in March, is carred on at all the drives and continues to be suc cessful in encouraging new recyclers to bring along their bundles of newspaper, clean glass bottles and jars, clean- and flattened steel FRIDAY. OCTOBER It. 1981 cans with lables removed, and their used motor oil when they bring their aluminum cans in for pay back.
