Search For Miss Illinois National Teenager 1982 Scholarships and other prizes await the winner of the 1982* Miss Illinois National Teenager pageant which will be held at Kirkland Fine Arts center on Millikin university campus May 15, 1982. A well-known hotel in Decatur, 111. will be the host hotel for the three day event. Teenage girls between the ages of 13 and 18 years are invited to participate in the eleventh annual state preliminary to the Miss National Teenager pageant. State pageants are held in participation with 41 colleges and universities and more than $400,000 to be awarded in cash, tuition scholarship and awards in the 1982 pageants in 50 states, D C. and Puerto Rico. The reigning Miss Illinois National Teenager, Sheryl Smith of Decatur, will crown her successor. Miss Smith won the second runnerup spot at the national pageant held in Ft. Myers, Fla. in August, 1981. She received more than $6,600 in tuition and cash scholarships. The Illinois winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship to the college of her choice, a $4,000 tuition scholarship to Millikin university, an all expense paid six-day trip to the national pageant in Ft. Myers, Fla. and other prizes. Runner-ups will be awarded $4,000 in tuition scholarships. She will have the op­ portunity'to conripele for up to $20,000 in cash scholar­ ships, an automobije and fabulous prizes at the national pageant. Illinois contestants will also be vying for a $4,000 scholar­ ship to Eckerd college, St. Petersburg, Fla., which is awarded to the winner of the state citizenship Winner and a further opportunity to compete for regional C and national scholarships up to $20,000. ^Judging is based on scholastic achievement, personality, poise and ap­ pearance, and leadership. American Legion Auxiliary News The membership drive of McHenry Unit 491, American Legion Auxiliary, is in full swing with Pearl Cooper and Harriet Larson as Membership co- chairmen. They extend an invitation to mothers, sisters, daughters and granddaughters of living veterans who are members of the American Legion or to the same relatives of men or women who were killed or died while serving in World War I and II, the Korean War or during the Vietnam Conflict, or after Honorable Discharge from such ser­ vice. Any women veterans, who have had service during these designated periods of time, are also eligible for membership. Legionnaire eligibility is from the following dates: Apr. 6, 1917 to Nov. 11, 1918 (World War I); Dec. 7, 1941 to Dec. 31, 1946 (World War II); June 25, 1950 to Jan. 31, 1955 (Korean Conflict); Dec. 22, 1961 to May 7, 1975 (Viet Nam era). The membership program of the Department (State organization), under the direction of Mrs. Carl (Betty Vee) Johnson has for its theme and symbols, "Illinois Sets The Pace For Service And Wins The Race For Membership".
