Top ranked DeKalb high Chool eliminated McHenry igh school's field hockey iam at- West Campus Tuesday afternoon by a core of 5-0 in IHSA playoff Action. Although the Warriors %ent all eight games of the regular season without a win, John Sytsma's team pjayed an inspired, aggressive game and found itself trailing only 1-0 after the first 30 minutes of play. "That was the best half that we've played all season," said Sytsma. DeKalb managed only two shots on goal in the first half, as the Warrior defense kept them out of their territory. But McHenry goalie Karen Karpavicious could only stop Warriors At Jacobs Tomorrow afternoon Coach Joe Schlender will take his McHenry Warriors to Jacobs for another Fox Valley game. The "Golden Eagles" of Bob Bejcek are the surprise team in the conference this season. Winless last year, losing all nine games, the Eagles have turned it around this season with a conference record of 3-2 and an overall record of 4-3. the Eagles have a veteran line returning led by 6'3", 235 lb guard Pat Wessman. tackle Jerry Knyal 5'10" and 175 lbs., along with tight end Mike Lange a 6'3", 210 lbs. Craig Eberly returns at the signal caller post, and has shown great im provement this * season. Running back Jeff Brock and Andy Garu give the Eagles a capable offense. The Warriors will try and rebound from the 42-26 loss at Crystal Lake last week. With no more homecomings in the Fox Valley, all teams will settle down to play football and forget the post game festivities. The Warriors didn't look too bad last week in their loss. The Tigers were ready for their homecoming, and made the most of it. The Warriors and Eagles in the past two season have put on quite a show for the fans, and tomorrow should be no exception. r-a Dick Rabbitt STORE FOR MEN V McHenry high school's tennis team saw its season come to a close last weekend as It failed to advance past the Crown District. Rte. 31) McHenry, III. 3S5-0M2 one of the assaults as a shot from the top of the circle went in. McHenry had three goal attempts in the half but couldn't manage a score. At 13 minutes into the second half, DeKalb scored its second goal of the contest to take a 2-0 lead. Sytsma then changed strategy by pulling his players forward to generate more offense. But the momentum had shifted to the Barbs who scored their third goal with nine minutes remaining. ' In the final minutes of the contest, DeKalb remained impregnable while adding two final scores itself. "Our whole team played well although the girls became tired in the second half," said Sytsma. "We were down after they scored the second goal on us and we never got our momentum back." Karpavicious, the Warrior goalie all season, played superb in a losing cause as did Janel Barnes, a forward who played her first full game after being a sub stitute. "The entire team deserves a lot of credit," said Sytsma. "They really gave it their best shot.'*' Besides Barnes, the other forwards for McHenry were Lynn Podpora, Sue Bielsky, and Kelly Brough. The link players were Tammy Sproull and Cindy Byron. Defensively, Sue Smith and Eileen Smith played at the fullback positions and the halfback spots were handled by Cara Jepsen and Jennine Sek. Although the Warriors had dropped all nine of their games this season, they had played some of the top teams in the state and had played them almost even. "After watching us play today, the referee found it hard to believe that we hadn't won a game this season," con cluded Sytsma. "At times we were very good." On November 8, tryouts for an Illinois All Star team will be conducted for the opportunity to be named on the "Team Illinois" squad. \ N. RIVER RD.
