FIFTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of November 12, 1981) An adjourned meeting of the City Council was called for the purpose of con sidering ways and means of completing the sewage disposal plant to meet the state requirements. The labor bills for the pavement repairs, filling cracks with tar and lifting the fallen curbs, amounted to 8247.50. These bills were paid, Robert Weber was present with the county treasurer's statement in which the county treasurer had mixed up the special assessment accounts. The first killing frost of the season reached this vicinity and gardens are now black and the leaves have fallen in showers from the trees as the result of the cold snap. The fall has been a most wonderful one, with garden flowers in bloom and tomatoes, beans and other vegetables picked from local gardens up until the frost of the last week. Mrs. Henry Heimer reports that she picked string beans in her garden the day before the frost and that her morning glories and other flowers were in bloom until that time. FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of November 13, 1941). TWENTY-FIVE YEARSAGO (Taken from the files of November 15, 1956). In view of the heavy vote in several of the county's 55 precincts at the election held last week, it is believed that a number of new ones will be added by the board of supervisions before the next election. In McHenry township, there was a total of 5,924 votes cast and three precincts in this area went over the 800 mark. No. 4, Johnsburg, had the largest vote with 1,068, which also turned out to be the heaviest vote in the county in any one precinct. McHenry 22, the city hall, counted 930 votes and McHenry 5, at Wonder Lake, had 829. Thus McHenry township is almost assured of having at least three new precincts within the next year. Miss Celia Page, a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan last June, left in September for New York, and is now nicely settled in an apartment with a friend from Belvidere. Besides her work, she has entered the Collegiates, a college choral group, (she is a music major) and will staisfy herself with music as an avocation for the present.
