RTA Improves Grade Crossings In County * • • • The Chicago and North Western (C&NW) Railroad commuters, as well as motorists, will enjoy a smoother ride now that the Regional Transportation Authority's $3.8 million capital grant construction program is coming to its seasonal end. The RTA is completely rehabilitating 20 grade crossings including new asphalt surfaces, installing new continous welded rail, 60,000 new cross ties, 25,000 cubic yards of ballast and removing all the drbris that h a s a c c u m u l a t e d o n t h e C&NW's North, Northwest and West lines. Seven of the 20 grade crossings have already been completed. All seven are on the Northwest line. They are: Rose Farm road, Hartland; Short and Wicker streets.
