The topic this week is "Curiosity") As a child, you looked out into the world with wide eyed wonder and fascination. You were intensely curious about everything and everyone. The movements of a cloud, the sound of a summer rain on your rooftpp, the magical dancing of flames in the fireplace; these are just a few of the happenings with which you could easily become absorbed for hours on end Why is the grass green? How do things work? You wanted to know about everything. Curiosity is an important attribute and a valuable resource for any human being to have at his or her disposal. It not only leads to interest and pleasure but to creativity and intelligence as well. All great inventions and discoveries were the outgrowth of a curious mind which was fascinated with some phenomena and wanted to know and un derstand more about the world. Lately, it seems to me that the world and the people in it are incredibly fascinating and I find myself becoming more and more interested in how people and things function and operate. Whenever I find myself feeling frustrated or stuck for example, I clearly see that I have a number of choices. In the past when I felt frustrated I would either get PAGE 5 - PLA1NPE ALER - FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 20.1981 them to work. WhaL I previously had seen a mistake, I i.ow can see as useful feedback which teaches me what I need to know. When I do something that doesn't work, I have learned what not to do in that particular situation-surely a valuable piece of information. Further, when what I do is not working, I am developing the sense to vary my behaviour and try something else. For if there is one thing I know for sure it is that if I always do what I have always done, 1 always get what I have always gotten. angry at myself or I would get angry at the world. Now I see that I have a much more pleasureable and productive option. Instead of anger, I find that I can become in tensely curious about how it is possible that things are not working the way I would like The McHenry Plaindealer 3112 W«9t ElmStr*«f (USPS 335 200) Established \$75 McH.nry Illinois 600*0 PHon# SIS 395-0170 Published Every Wednesday & Friday al McHenry Illinois Second Closs Postage Paid at McHenry Illinois By McMINRY PUBLISHING COMPANY POSTMASTER Send oddress changes to McHenry Plaindeoler 381?
