Shopping isn't one of my long suits so I leave that part to the girl in my life. There is nothing like a good chunk of butter on toast, rolls or pancakes. Conscious of weight and cholesteral, I quit the dairy product for imitation stuff. Now, some expert comes along with a report that vegetable oils won't cause heart trouble, but "may" cause cancer. Dry toast may not be so bad -- but, get this! Carbohydrates such as bread put on too much weight. « wonderland •DRAWING 12/6 FOR LACQUER BRASS & MOTHER OF PEARL VAS^ NO PURCHASE NECESSARY Silk Floral Arrangements Brass Accent Pieces Indian Bra&sware & Soapstone Dolomite Figures Procelain Figurines Collectible Dolls Copper Music Boxes Kitchenware We Accept •Major! Whoever changed the word graphophone to gramophone in a recent column is invited to look in Mr Webster's dictionary. The Richmond-Burton football team went along nicely in the playoffs and gave McHenry County something to cheer about. Cheer, cheer for old Notre Dame. They need it. Any resemblance this team has to the great ones we have seen is only in the color of their uniforms. In football, the name of the game is to get the field postion for the 3-point kicker to come in. Never thought I would see the day when sports would have so many prima-donnas and spoiled brats. When a pro basketball player can dictate firing of his coach, things have gone too far. Sometimes tennis players are notorious. Baseball players say, "Play me or trade me". Who says some other team will guarantee to play them? A manager or coach is in trouble trying to give or ders to players who are making so much money. The manager's salary wouldn't keep a big star in cigars. Speaking of cigars. It wasn't until after the Lord had called this loveable lady to her eternal reward that I learned her identity -- Mrs. Joe (Lillian) Williams. In clearing out old files, I ran across a couple of those contributions that may not have been run. Here is one. Another one will follow: DAILY PINUPS It takes a pliant politician to straddle the fence and still keep his ear to the ground. WHAT'S NEW MCCULLOM TAKE Dawn Miller Hold Village Board Meeting The Village Board meeting was held Tuesday evening, Nov. 24, at the beach house and one of the topics discussed was boats. Residents who paid for boat space rental should have had their boats removed from the beach by Nov. 1. If you didn't, you will have to call Tom Olson about claiming your boat. Residents who didn't pay for space rental and left their boat down at the beach regardless of the rules, will also have to contact Tom. The village rents out 10 spaces at a nominal charge, payable at the clerk's office. If you don't pay for space rental, you must take your boat home each time you use it. I have been asked to remind you about Ordinance 52A again. No vehicle is supposed to be parked within 18 inches of the improved surface of the roadway any time snow plowing is going on or may be required. This ordinance will be enforced this winter. It's very hard to plow with cars parked all over. CHRISTMAS PARTY The Beach Gals annual ladies Christmas party was 385-4 another success. The uaies enjoyed a delicious prime rib dinner at a local riverfront restaurant. There was an ornament exchange and some games were played for some very nice prizes. Sand Used With Paint for Skid-Proofing Steps While visiting a local city administration building, my busi ness took me to an office located in the basement of the building. I was impressed by the fact that the steps, although they appeared recently painted, were skid-proof: The steps once were very smooth. They still look fairly smtoth, but they art not at all slippery. I would like to do something about the conoteie steps to my porch. Have you any suggestions? t,. You can sprinkle fine sand on the steps after they have been freshly painted. You can also add the sand directly to the paint. This will provide a more even application--if you remem ber to stir the paint often enough to prevent the sand from settling to the bottom of the container. Is there some simple way to stop the flow of cold air through electric outlets? Our house is old and when you place your hand near an outlet you can feel the air rushing in. Visit your local hardware or department store and check the availability of outlet insulators, which are easy to install. You simply remove the outlet plate, insert the insulator and replace the plate. gespurgeons Hints for Santa Mean Famify Fun!
