Nunda Library Makes Plans For Building The monthly meeting of the McHenry Nunda, Public library district Dec. >0 was primarily concerned with the planning of a building on the library's property. Mrs. Margaret Marchi, former head librarian and administrator of the Woodstock Public library, spoke of the necessary steps to be taken for a building program. A community survey is needed to deter mine the present and future needs of the area and what residents want and expect from a library. Next is the establishment of goals, then the hiring of a building consultant to design the inside workings of a well planned and smoothly flowing library. An architect will then plan the building to house the library. What financing will be available, will determine the final outcome of the building project. Former board member Joan Adams was among the interested persons attending the meeting. President Louise Hipwell, treasurer Karen Colomer, secretary Edna Mueller, trustee Diane Fuhler and librarian Margaret Karas recognized Ms. Adams for her 10 years of service on the board. Also present were Jim Adams, Frank Colomer, Charles Weingart and Prudence Huffman. The community survey, the first phase of the building program, will be on the agenda of the next meeting of the board Jan. 22. Persons interested in joining in this growth process are invited to attend. • • • e An executive is one who cannot work unless he has assistants. L ! ) Lessen Storm Hardship There is nothing one can do to completely avoid severe winter storms in Illinois, bui the in convenience and hardship caused by these storms can be lessened if time is ffc--» to be prepared. As part of Winter Storm Preparedness week Dec. 14- 20, some common sense suggestions on preparing for the storms that may occur this winter are given in a 12- page publication, called "The Cold Hard Facts About Winter Storms," written by the Illinois State Water Survey, a division of the Department of Energy and Natural Resources. This booklet lists some of the preparations to make before the start of winter and after, a winter storm is forecast, as well as in formation on the nature of severe winter storms in Illinois. Among the suggestions listed, the Water Survey says to make sure the home and car are winterized before the first storm of the season. If a furnace breaks down after a heavy snow or the car won't move, service personnel may not be able to reach the scene. To make sure the car is ready for winter travel, have the battery and ignition system checked, put snow tires on the car, and be sure lights, wipers, heater, and defroster are in good operating order. Winter- weight oil in the crankcase will make starting the car on cold mornings a little easier. Keep abreast of the latest storm information by TV or radio. The National Weather Service issues a winter storm 'watch* when hazardous winter weather conditions may affect an area. "Warnings" are issued when hazardous winter weather conditions are threatening. If storms are forecast for a particular area, check battery-powered equipment to be sure they are in working order in case power goes out. If one heats with wood, oil or bottled gas, make sure there is enough fuel on hand. Fuel carriers may not be able to make deliveries if a winter storm dumps a large amount of snow or ice on an area. Also, check the food in home and stock an extra supply, including plenty of food that requires no cooking or refrigeration. Make trips for supplies before the storm develops. Single copies of the booklet "Some Cold Hard Facts About Winter Storms" can be obtained from two sources: the Illinois State Water Survey, Box 5050, Station A, Champaign, 111, 61820, or the McHenry County Emergency Services and Disaster Office (ESDA). • • • • What have you done to make this community a better place to live in? • • • • Drive carefully on the highways, even if some one else runs into your automobile. - r mlwt A J, UfcCaiWBftft 11, l«oa Ringwood News DorisJ.ow Koty Christopher 653-9262 385-8037 Young People Go Caroling The young people of both parishes will meet Sunday, Dec. 20 at the Ringwood United Methodist church to 29.97 Durably constructed trunk with cedar lining.
