Kuechel, 54, 2704 Old Oak drive, McHenry, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, in Memorial hospital for McHenry county, Woodstock, 111. She was born Jan. 3, 1927 in "Christmas toys carrying various safety claims still can damage children's eyes and may even cause blind ness," warned Dr. Paul Randolph, president-elect of the Illinois Optometric association (IOA). N "Toymakers are con cerned with product safety," said Dr. Randolph, "but we have found toys in the stores that can severely injure the eyes. Some of them have safety claims on the box, such as 'safety tested* or an assurance that they meet federal safety standards. These toys might be safe for all parts of the body except the eyes." A survey by the IOA led to the warning of toys offered this season that are "potentially dangerous for the eyes." They include: Astro Zapper-An outer space type gun that shoots small balls up to 20 feet. The box carries a statement, "This toy produced under the high quality and safety standards of the maker and has been manufactured in conformity with the Federal Child Protection and Toy Safety Act of 1969," but a shot in the eye could cause serious injury, noted Dr. Randolph, j Big Blast Machine Gun-A small model toy machine gun that actually shoots tiny plastic bullets. The manufacturer recommends "for children over 8 years old-use under adult supervision." Firebird 300 with Nite-Glo- -An auto racing set with "curve hugger" cars. The track is lighted and the cars have working headlights. "This game is dangerous because it encourages children to play in the dark. A car flying off the track could hit a child who might be sitting too close, even though the toy's label stated that the game's contents conform to federal safety requirements," says Dr. Randolph. X-15 Rocket Plane-A "ready-to-launch flying model rocketry starter outfit.- Wings Away-This "safety- tested" toy launches tiny planes from a concealed trap door. A Traditional Christinas gifts like flying toys remain on the IOA dangerous flst year after year. Power Mite Hand battery-powered drill actually works. It with two sharp bits miniature screwdriver, toy like this always se end up in the wrong This drill looks safe, youngster could sul severe injury if the sharp bit got into his-her eye," notes Dr. Randolph. "Keep in mind that the eye is a most delicate organ. Even the slightest impact can cause serious damage, including detached retinas. Children must be properly supervised When playing with any toy that could possibly cause eye damage. And parents-not to mention grandparents-should keep vision safety in mind When doing holiday gift-shopping for any youngster." Master Meet In Disorder JOHN L. Cliff Mason, delegate from Highland Shores sub division, was forced to read verbatum out of the Robert's Rules handbook and Rich Flood, an attorney hired to give an opinion on the feasibility of a park district, was requested to act as interpreter. Francis Higgins, delegate from Wonder Center, shouted across the Harrison Elementary school gym at the subdivision delegates supporting a park district: "If they want to pay for it (park district), let them eat it!" After heated debate, a lot of confusion and a roll call vote, Higgins' motion to vote on the conveyance of land from the Master association to a still unestablished park district was defeated. Following that, the park district question also was narrowly defeated, 40 votes to 37. Although the two largest subdivisions of Highland Shores, with nine votes, and Legal Notice This Legal Notice is to inform all those concerned that the McHenry Shores Botfrd of Trustees meeting that was scheduled for December 22, 1981 will be cancelled. Consequently, its owner, Charles Jacobson, controls 11 votes. "We have enough governmental bodies," Jacobson said. "The whole problem would be solved if we used what we already have."
