MeHenry will now have another oarage with one now being built for Allan Noonan, well-known garage and repair man. The building, which is now under con struction is located on Route 61 and adjoins the Broadway Barbecue, which is a most desirable location for a business of this kind, the heavy traffic during the summer season making this thoroughfare a very busy one. Mr. Noonan will also operate a filling station, where high grade gas will be sold. Miss Elsie Vycital, who teaches school at Fox River Grove, met with a serious accident as she was retur ning home from school. It was quite dark and Miss Vycital drove into a lumber wagon which had no lights, seeing it just quickly enough to swerve to one side, sideswiping the wagon. She received two crushed ribs and other bruises. FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of December 25, 1941). One of the most malicious acts of mischief is a repeat story, almost word for word, of one told just two years ago. Between 11 o'clock and midnight, someone stole the life-size Santa Claus which was part of a beautiful decoration on the front lawn of the Robert Lent residence on north Riverside drive. It will be remembered that another holiday decorition, arranged painstakingly in 1954, was also stolen. At that time, Mr. and Mrs. Lent took the trouble and expense to construct an entirely new scene. It stems that someone is badly in need of some Christmas spirit, which the Lents seem to have in such abundance. The secretary of state this week released the assign ments of the first 100 auto numbers for 1957. No. 98 is held by the Huch Leather company of Pistakee Bay, as it has been for a number of years. *~ Attending the meeting of Delta Kappa Gamma in Crystal Lake recently were Eleanor Foley, Ethel McGee, Lillian Bolger, Dorothy Gibbs, Nellie Doherty, Genevieve Knox and Mary Harvey. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of December 29, 1971). Because they "were tired of nothing happening," a group of people from the Fox river valley banded together to see if they could find a way to do something to bring about proper management of the river, according to Ken Fiske, treasurer of the group who presented petitions for a referendum to form a watershed con servancy district just before Christmas. Under his plan a new tax district would be set up governed by a 37-person board appointed by mayors of cities over 5,000 people and by state legislators. Pay could go as high a s $3,000 per year for these in dividuals. Sheriff Arthur Tyrrell announced that effective Jan. 1 Chief John Carroll will act as head of ad ministration of the Detective and Patrol divisions for his department. In keeping with the spirit of giving, we're happy to announce that during the year oi 1981 we paid out over $18,600,000.00 in in terest to our savers... If you're thinking that's a lot of money . .. you're right. And the reason we can deliver such a healthy return is that we pay our depositors the highest interest rates a savings and loan is allowed to pay by law. Another reason is that we're a Mutual Association which means there are no stockholders to pay. Our net income during each year is distributed to our savers in the form oi interest, which all adds up to more money for you. The funds remaining after operating expenses and savers have been paid goes into building up our already strong reserves, which helps us to serve you better. In addition, every dollar you deposit with us is protected up to $100,000 by an agency oi the federal government. Best oi all this money is distributed to residents oi the MeHenry county area, which in turn helps us keep a sturdy economic ilow of money within our own community. So ii you've been looking ior a good place to invest your money, save where your iriends do, save with us. We're the place where many happy returns happen all year round.
