He was born in McHenry March 25, 1906, the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Althoff) Tonyan. A lifetime resident of McHenry, Mr. Tonyan was the retired president of Tonyan Bros., Inc. and developer of Weston Lake estates. He was a former director of McHenry hospital; had served on the McHenry County Planning Commission and was a lifetime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic church, Johnsburg. Survivors are his wife Elsie (nee Stebley) whom he married Jan. 5, 1937, in Waukegan; a daughter, Mrs. John (Audrey) Regner; one son James; and two grand children, Sara and Jonathan, all of McHenry. Also surviving are four brothers, George of Tucson, Ariz., William, Edward and Henry of McHenry; three sisters, Mrs. Bernard (Gertrude) Schmitt of McHenry, Mrs. Francis J. (Rose) Hrejsa of North Riverside and Angela B. Tonyan of Sequim, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Asella and Clara Tonyan, and one granddaughter, Susan Regner. A funeral Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wed nesday, at St. John's church, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at the Peter M. Justen & Son funeral home. -In lieu of flowers, memorials would be ap preciated to the Johnsburg Rescue squad or St. John's Church Restoration fund. STANLEY THOMAS Stanley G. Thomas, 61, of Des Plaines, 111., formerly of McHenry, was dead on arrival at Holy Family hospital, Des Plaines, Friday, Dec. 18. He was born June 3, 1920, in Chicago. Mr. Thomas had been the owner of Johnson's Sporting Goods, Des Plaines, for 25 years; was a member of Isaac Walton league; Kiwanis club, Des Plaines; Elks club, Des Plaines; Masonic lodge and Chamber of Commerce. Survivors are his wife Lorraine; three sons, Stfevefi L. of Grayslake, Jeffrey A. of Lake Zurich and Stanley G., II. of Arlington Heights; three grandchildren; two brothers, Theodore A. Thomas of Norwood Park and Anton (Dean) Thomas of Hackensack, Minn.; a sister, Ruth Schnur of Fresno, Calif.; and a mother-in-law, Ila G. Johnson of Des Plaines. Memorial services will be held Sunday, Jan. 3, at 2 p.m., in Christ United Church of Christ, Cora and Henry streets, Des Plaines. Arrangements were handled by the Oehler funeral home in Des Plaines. Heuss, 36, Keith drive, Richmond, formerly of McHenry, died Friday evening, Dec. 18, at Condell Memorial hospital, Libertyville, 111., following a vehicle accident near Round Lake. He was born May 29, 1945, in Chicago, the son of Raymond and Alice (Rathnow) Heuss. On Dec. 11,1965, in Itasca, 111., he married the former Carol Tegtow, who survives. Mr. Heuss was a carp- tenter by trade for the last 15 years; belonged to the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local 839 of Des Plaines; and Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church, McHenry. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter Sue and two sons, Mike and Jeff, all at home; and his mother of Durango, Colo. He was preceded in death by his father. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at Shepherd of the Hills church, with the Reverend Roger Schneider officiating, and interment will be private. Visitation was scheduled from 2 to 9 p.m. at Ehorn- Adams funeral home in Richmond. JOHN GUSTEK John S. Gustek, 7506 Seminole drive, Wonder Lake, died Friday, Dec. 18, at Memorial hospital for McHenry county, Wood stock. He was 66 years old, born in Chicago Feb. 12, 1915, the son of Stephen and Anna (Chmura) Gustek. Mr. Gustek lived in Wonder Lake since 1954, having come from Chicago. He was a retired paper cutter and had worked for the Segerdahl Corp., Chicago; belonged to the Graphic Arts International Union Local 8-B of Chicago; and was past president of the Indian Ridge Property Owners association of Wonder Lake. Survivors include his wife Evelyn (Raske) whom he married Sept. 25,1 1943, in Chicago; his mother Anna Gustek of Wonder Lake; two sisters, Rose Gustek of Wonder Lake and Mrs. 1 Florence Filliung of Chicago; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Richard and Edward Gustek. A funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. Monday, in Christ the King Catholic church, Wonder Lake, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends called from 1:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Peter M. Justen & Son funeral home. CATHERINE SCHAID Catherine Schaid, 86, 115 E. Todd avenue, Woodstock, was found dead in her home Friday evening, Dec. 18._ She was born June 23, 1895, to Martin and Christina (May) Freund. A former resident of McHenry and Hebron, Mrs. Schaid and her husband -farmed in the McHenry coui^j; area over 22 years; she had worked for the R. C. Allen & Co. of Woodstock for 16 years; and was a member of St. Mary's churches of Woodstock and McHenry. Survivors include her husband John, whom she married Feb. 26, 1919, in St. Mary's, McHenry; two sons, Elmer of Hebron and Nor man of Woodstock; 15 grandchildren; 14 great- :hildren; a sister Mrs. l Glosson of McHenry; and a brother Michael Freund of Richmond. She was preceded in death by a son Loren, Nov. 18, 1940; three brothers, Stephen, Peter and John Freund; and two sisters, Anna Huff and Mamie Fretmd. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, in St. Mary's churqh, McHenry, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation was scheduled after 3 p.m. Monday, in the George R. McHenry, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, at the Valley Hi Nursing Home, Hartland, 111. She was born Jan. 15,1905 in England; migrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba as a young girl, with her parents; came to Chicago in 1923 and was a practical nurse at C h i l d r e n ' s M e m o r i a l hospital many years. A resident of McHenry since 1957, Mrs. Roberts was employed at the Pistakee Bay Nursing Home for 15 years and retired in 1972. Survivors are a daughter, Patricia Tomasello of McHenry; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A Mass Of Christian Burial was conducted Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic church, Johnsburg, with interment in the church cemetery.
