Only a year ago we watched with mingled feelings the development of the second World War in Europe. This year, although we are ourselves in the throes of the war, our sympathy is still extended to those nations whose plight is even greater than our own. Frbm^LH. "Well, Marion Krause broke the high game record for ladies on the Schaefer alleys with a 268 game in a 600 series. Congrats!" The McHenry Warriors registered their eighth straight victory as they outpointed Richmond by a score of 54-37. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of December 20, 1956) The public very decisively expressed themselves at five voting precincts in the McHenry high school district as being opposed to a $290,000 bond issue which would have provided a swimming pool to the new addition to the school. The vote was 542 against the issue and 224 in favor. All the colorful lights which brighten the yuletide season will not be confined to Christmas trees, according to R.C. Zahn, telephone manager here. Christmas Eve will start the"" little green, red and amber lights on the long-distance swit chboards flashing faster and longer than ever before. The number of toll calls placed and received by residents of McHenry will hit record holiday heights. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of December 31, 1971) The First Baptist church has called an additional staff member to aid in its multiple ministries to the community of McHenry and the surrounding areas. The Reverend Joe O'Neal has accepted the position of youth director and assistant pastor for the church. D u r i n g m i d n i g h t Christmas Eve services at the Chain O'Dakes Evangelical Covenant church on Wilmot road, unknown persons entered every unlocked car in the parking lot. However, the only item missing from the autos was an overcoat taken from the Cal Linquist car. The McHenry County Planning commission read a letter from Anthony Cor coran, administrator of McHenry hospital, in dicating plans would con tinue toward a regional health park complex in the area. The letter said zoning would be requested on a piece of property located on Rt. 31,2l/2 miles northeast of Crystal Lake. The facility calls for an initial 400-bed hospital and facilities for the Mental Health clinic, Pioneer Center for the Retarded and possibly others that might desire to share the facilities.
