State Troopers On Extra Holiday Patrol While these two week ends suggest holiday cheer, parties, and celebrations to most people, troopers assigned to patrol the Illinois tollroad and all other roads across Illinois will be told to devote extra time to make Illinois roads safer. All sworn State police command, supervisory and specialty personnel, usually not assigned to patrol duties will be expected to patrol one full eight-hour day over the New Year's holiday, either Thursday, Dec. 31 or Sun day, Jan. 3. These specific dates were chosen because of the peak holiday travelers expected to be on the roadways. Illinois State troopers will be assigned to watch for certain violations over the two holiday weekends: 1 - Strict enforcement of the 55 speed limit. 2 - Establish a high visibility of patrol vehicles. 3 - Recognized drunk and drinking drivers. 4 - Enforce equipment violations on trucks as well as automobiles. These extra troopers assigned to holiday traffic will employ rader, vascar, and weather permitting, air speed checks. Captain Hugh S. McGinley, commanding officer of State Police District 15, concludes with this warning, "The Illinois State police will be out with all the personnel we can muster to protect those who can't cope • with the stresses of the Season, -- of their own accord.*' P \GE 13 - PLAIN DEALER - TUESDAY. With this old world of ours going at a dizzy pace, we have come to the end of another year-absolutely the worst year in all history- according to the opinions of a good many of us. According to H. G. It surely has been a battered year with old man Depression that we have heard so much about hitting it hard during the past twelve months. The ladies of the American Legion auxiliary went to the state hospital in Elgin, where they assisted in the Christmas canteen work for the World War soldiers as sponsored by the McHenry County counciT They were assisted by members of the American Legion, who helped distribute the gifts to the more than 500 patients at the hospital.
