In McHenry County Jump Rope For Heart Once-A-Day Washing and rinsing dishes by hand three times a day uses more hot water and energy than one load a day in an automatic dishwasher. The Illinois Association of Health, Physical Education and Recreation (IAHPER), has again sponsored its participation in a national special event-- Jump Rope for Heart-which will be sponsored for benefit of the American Heart association. The event will be held at schools and other locations in McHenry county from March 18-April 11. March is National Physical Education and Sports month, iand the event has been endorsed by the Governor's Council on Health and Fitness. IAHPER is a volunteer educational organization of health and physical education teachers, coaches and athletic directors, and personnel in safety and recreation. Schools from elenientary to college level are expected to participate in more than 45 states. Jump Rope for Heart will be conducted by school physical education teachers and students who organize rope-jumping competition. Members of six-student teams each jump rope, relieving each other when tiring, for a maximum of three hours. Cash pledges collected from sponsors for each minute of their rope- jumping efforts contribute to Heart association programs of research, education and community service. Participants and schools are eligible for prizes ranging from T^shtrTffT jackets and warm-up suits to equipment for use in ad vancing the school's physical education program. The event promotes the Heart association's message of the lifelong benefits of regular physical exercise and demonstrates how teamwork can be used to reach a common goal as students and teachers work together. For more information on how a group can participate, call (312) 888-4154.
