STAFF PHOTO - WAYNE GAYLORD Marian Wrestlers Lose First To Hononegah 51 - 15 M a r i a n C e n t r a l ' s wrestling team suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday night as SHARK conference rival Hononegah defeated the Hurricanes 51- 15. Marian managed only three wins against the In­ dians who recorded eight pins among their ninne victories. Now 3-1, Marian will travel to Montini on Saturday, Jan. 9 for a double dual match with the Broncos and also Walter Lutheran. ^ By weight class, here are (/^Marian's results against Hononegah: 98 lbs M a r k W o h n r a d e decisioned Toby Houston 7-0 to improve his record to 8-1. 105 lbs Kevin McConville pinned Anthony Krombach at 1:19 to raise his record to 6-4. 112 lbs Jeff Nuhsbaum was pinned at 3:00 by Brandy Schoonover. Nuhsbaum is now 5-4. 119 lbs Tom Hoffman was pinned at 1:02 by John Schwartz. 126 lbs Jim Gardner was pinned at 4:56 by Greg Rozsa. 132 lbs Tom Schermerhorn pinned Craig eleven at 1:45. The senior improved his record to 10-1 «and has eight pins included n his wins. 138 lbs Steve Stilling was pinned at 3:44 by Dan Bryant. Stilling is now 2-1. 145 lbs John Nebel was pinned at 3:07 by Chris Pierson. 'Hawk Grapplers 4-3 Johns burg high school's wrestling team suffered a 36- 24 loss against Elgin-St. Edward last week dropping its varsity record to 4-3. Second year varsity coach Don March inicated that the results were dissappointing as only four of his wrestlers won. "I can look back and see spots that we need to work on which let us down at the varsity level, but the kids were ready and in shape for this meet," he said. The varsity results against St. Edward are as follows v 98 lbs Guy Bazilweich lost 14-1 to Theylon. 105 lbs Dave Haisma lost to Witham. 112 lbs Mike Cahill lost 7-0 to Oes. 119 lbs Lars Swanson was pinned by Sheehy at 0:15 in the first period. 126 lbs Dave Moravic recorded Johnsburg's first win as he pinned Sliwar at 1:00 in the second period. 132 lbs Mike Hurckes was pinned by Sheehy at :35 in the third period. 138 lbs Joe Kalisek pinned Krima in the first period to improve his record to 12-6. 145 lbs Brett Everett lost 14-12 to Schodin. 155 lbs Kirk Cosper lost 15-7 to Erickson. , 167 lbs Martin Dreyer lost 4-2 to Dudgeon. 185 lbs Mike Dalan pinned Jacob putting his record at 15-2. Heavyweight John Grenman won by forfeit putting his record at 8-4. The Skyhawks also wrestled as a junior varsity squad and had little trouble with Jacobs winning 52-15. Winners included Bazilweich (98-pin), Swanson (119-pin), Hurckes (132-decision), Kalisek (138-pin), Everett (145-pin), Cosper (155-pin), Dreyer (167-pin), Dalan (185-forfeit), and Grenman (Heavyweight-pin). In freshmen-sophomore competition, Johnsburg was defeated 44-18 by St. Edward and 39-27 by Jacobs. "I am especially happy to see us perform all together as one team in three levels of competition, freshmen- sophomore, junior varsity, and varsity," concluded March. "I feel it has brought us closer together as a team." One wrestler in particular that March feels is im­ proving after each match that he wrestles is heavyweight John Grenman. In his first year out for the sport, the sophomore owns an 8-4 record. Niedospiel, a McHenry native, is now 8-4. 167 lbs Tony Remke was pinned at :49 by Shawn Kinnaird. 185 lbs Tony Piwowarczyk was pinned at 3:45 by Mike Ainsworth. Heavyweight „ Rich Kelly was pinned at 2:45 by John Porter. Kelly is now 7-3. MCHS Wrestlers 12th At Boylan Joliet West had little trouble winning the Rodkford-Boylan wrestling invitational held last week at Boylan. The Tigers scored 253^ points to easily capture first dace among the 16-team field. Harvard placed a distant second with 123Vfe poiints, while Rockford- Jefferson was third with 119 points. McHenry high school finished twelfth with 27Vz team points, and placed two wrestlers. In the 138 weight class, Scott Schmitt finished fourth, and in the 155 weight class, Dan Clark was fifth. "The training experience of the upper class wrestlers showed throughout , the Christmas tournament." said McHenry coach Marty Sobczak. "Our wrestlers showed the ability to rebound quickly for two or three matches per day, and this should help ready the •unger members _ uad for the conference and the yo squa state series." McHenry will be busy again this weekend hosting Wauconda Thursday night, then' hosting conference rival Crown on Friday, Jan. 8. Both matches will be held at East Campus. Schmitt opened with a 4-2 decision over McGirk (Rockford-Boylan), was decisioned 7-0 by Patton (Woodstock), pinned Hodley (Kaneland) in 2:27, and lost 7-2 decision to Strauss (Chi- St. Patrick) in the battle for third place. 145 lbs Roland Hunt lost a 10-5 decision to Palmer (Loves Park-Harlem). 155 lbs Dan Clark was the only other Warrior wrestler who placed as he was fifth in his weight class. Clark opened with a pin against Goff (Rock-Boylan) in 1:32, lost 12-5 to Nehra (Oak Park), defeated Riley (Woodstock) 10-3, was pinned by Loos (Loves Park-Harlem) in 4:05, and decisioned Curry (Joliet Central) for fifth place. 167 lbs Bob Hawley lost 24-0 to Brasfield (Rock-Guilford), and 12-0 to Higar (Loves Park-Harlem). 185 lbs Tom Kucek lost 12-3 to Hawkins (Loves Park- Harlem), and 5-2 to Wessman (Rock-Jefferson). Heavyweight Dan Mohnen lost 6-0 to Mroczek (Chi-St. Patrick).
