For, such a floor, created by you, is much more than a money-saving spruce-up job. It's also the kind of personal in vestment that makes a house a home. • Here, to boost your creative thoughts, are some design ideas from the Tile Council of Amer ica: • A plaid or gingham- patterned floor a la ceramic mosaics is sure to put a country kitchen in a class of its own. In a contem porary room just one racy stripe might do the trick. • If you're especially crea tive and patient, think of an overall floral or foliage design for an enclosed porch or sun room. Such a design is also a beautiful possibility for a dining room furnished to create a gazebo atmosphere. • Black and white exudes formality . The pattern might be symmetrically placed fleur-de- lis motifs, elaborately inter twined medallions, or a Greek Key border. • Tilsd-in-place area nigs and special motifs--such as a coat-of-arms, or a favorite needlepoint--are dramatic ac cents. A good example is a Navajo rug reproduced in tile and perfect for a plain-Jane kitchen, mud-room or foyer. According to the Tile Coun cil, ceramic mosaics usually come in one or two-inch squares, and in small rectangles and hexagon shapes, all in a rainbow of colors. There are glazed and un- glazed versions and, generally, only the unglazed tiles should be used for floors. It's characteris tic of unglazed ceramic tile that the color goes all the way through, so it stands to reason that this product is tough. Ceramic mosaics me usually mounted on 1 sq. ft.-sheets for easy installation, and on these sheets they're spaced for even grout lines. If you need just a few tiles of the sheets to create your pattern, merely cut the bonding material with ordinary scissors. But, don't forget to include grout line spaces When you lay out loose tiles. Use those new colored grouts judiciously. Remember, they can emphasize or Mend. It's up to your creative eye to choose the best effect. Today, tile-setting is a cinch if you're reasonably handy. But, to play it safe, describe all the particulars of your project to the tile retailer. Bringing snap shots helps, too. Then, follow all the good advice you get. This is one case where it doesn't pay to be a "wise guy." > 1250 N.Green St., McHenry $ Days Clearance Sale Save 25%.. 58% OFF FALL AND WINTER APPAREL i i - i 1 : ; t i t : ; : i ; ; ; . i : i i i i i • ' >•, •_• , V.f 1 wmmi Orlg. 5.99 to 10.99 Girls Teps Size 7-14 Orig. 6.99 to 11.99 & lex Tops Orig. 4.99 to 10.99 Dresses 4-6X Orig. 14.99
