STAFF PHOTO - WAYNE GAYLORD Hitler Beats Buss-Stop In Men's Loop. - JOHNSBURG -Johnsburg high school's wrestling team continues to stay over the .500 mark as a double dual split at Johnsburg Saturday left Don March's team with a 5-4 record. The Skyhawks defeated "Richmond-Burton 48-14, but lost 37-28 to Wheaton-St. Francis. The Spartans won the double dual meet by also defeating Richmond 48-14. Johnsburg will wrestle another double dual meet on Tuesday at Hampshire against the Whippurs and also Valley Lutheran, then face SHARK conference opponent Hononegah on Friday, Jan. 15 at Rockton. By weight class, here are Saturday's results against Richmond and Wheaton: 98 lbs Guy Bazilweich pinned Decastro (R) at 1;21 in the first period, but he was pinned by O'Hanlou (W) at 1:59 in the second period. 105 lbs Dave Haisma lost 7-5 agaiiisf Richmond and won by forfeit against Wheaton. Mike CgfulNdecisipned Hendrixson (R) 13-10, but he was pinned by Marre (W) at 2:19 in the second period. 119 lbs Lars Swanson pinned Radcliffe (R) at 3:54 in the second period, but he lost a 5- 4 decision to Bucciferro (W). 128 lbs Dave Moravec lost by fall against Esposito (R) at 5:06 remaining in the third period, but he won by fall against Bird (W) at 2:44 in the second period. 132 lbs Mike Hurckes recorded a pair of pins to put his record at 15-3. The junior pinned Hanus (R) at 3:21 in the second period, and Kozaj (W) at 2:59 in the second period. 138 lbs Joe Kalisek also won twice to improve his record to 13-6. The senior pinned Miltmore (R) at 1:00 in the first period, and also won a major decision 11-3 against Swanson (W). third period after leading in the match 10-2, but he lost a 9-0 major decision to Mit­ chell (W). 155 lbs Rich Thayer lost 23-2 to Rabia (R) and by fall to Miller (W) at 1:14 m the first period. 187 lbs Martin Dreyer won by forfeit against Richmond, but he defaulted against Denny of Wheaton 185 lbs Mike Dalan improved his team leading record to 16-2 with two wins by fall. Warrior Swim Team Defeats Elgin 96-62 Brett Cesarni 145 lbs Everett (R) pinn McHENRY -Coach Mike Shanahan's McHenry high school swim team defeated Elgin 96-62 last Thursday in a dual meet at West Campus. Led by brothers Wade and Darren Cepulis along with Bob Schaefer and Ken Ledford who were all first place winners, the Warriors won their second meet of the season with a squad of just Hiller Construction moved into a tie for first place in Men's Parks & Recreation basketball by beating previously unbeaten Buss Ford-John's Sport Stop 73-51 last Wednesday. Both teams are now 5-1*. The Buss-Stop ran into foul trouble early as Randy Neiss, Dave Lawson, Steve Kasperzyck, and Steve Buss all were forced to sit the bench in the first half. Hiller, meanwhile, rolled out to a 31-24 halftime lead. Ben Beck, Don Bentz, and Steve Dobner controlled the boards for Hiller, while Jeff and John Meyers, and Joe Huemann provided the hustle on both ends of the court. 'Old timer' Harry May also contributed as he popped in three buckets in the first half. In the second half, the Buss-Stop closed to within six points twice, but more fouls (both Buss and Kasperzyck fouled out) did them in as the winners made 16 of 21 free throw attempts in the second half. The winners outscored the Around The FVC Crystal Lake South took, over sole possession of first place in the Fox Valley conference by winning a 65- 63 showdown at Woodstock Friday night. Both teams were 4-0 going in. Blue Streak center Jerry DeWane scored his season high of 32 points, but the Gators made four free throws in the last 1:23 to ice the game. Free throws made the difference in the contest as South sank 13 of 23 charity tosses, while Woodstock made a mere 5-of-ll. Tom and Mike Dayton each scored 16 points for the Gators, and conference leading scorer Jeff Mitby added 14. Jamie Eriksen had 14 points for Woodstock. South improved its overall record to 14-1 by also winning a 71-60 non- cbnference game against Marengo Saturday night. Crystal Lake Central and Cary Grove moved above the .500 plateau by also winning Friday night. Central defeated Dundee 77-68, while Cary Grove edged Jacobs 57- 55. Jacobs rebounded on Saturday, however, by winning a non-conference game against Lake Zurich 67-59. McHenry moved to 2-3 in the conference by winning at winless Crown 72-62. (See related story). The Warriors lost on Saturday though, 58- 48 at Palatine Fremd. SHARK Tdbts Buss-Stop 42-27 and rolled to its victory. While the Buss- Stop managed one more field goal, 24-23, Hiller won the game at the free throw line making 25 of 33 attempts. Beck led Hiller with 19 points and Bentz finished with 17. John Meyers and Huemann finished with 10 each. For the Buss-Stop, league leading scorer Jim Heard popped in 16 points and Lawson added 12. Hiller Construction 31-42-73 Buss-Stop 24-27 - 51 In the second game of the night, Christopher's broke a three game losing streak by dumping Orchard Heights 72-56. - Orchard led 16-4 after the first six minutes of play, but then Christopher's came to life outscoring Orchard 27-12 during the remaining 14 minutes of the half to take a 31-28 lead. In the second half, Christopher's outscored Orchard 41-28 to win easily. Ron Sulaski played one of his finer games at the pivot leading the winners in scoring (15 points) and rebounding plus doing an excellent job defending Orchard's Jim Zasada. Zasada, who led all scorers in the contet with 22 points, scored most of his points against other defenders. The 'Gene Vitale fan club' also was on hand to give him one when he came off the bench to contribute numerous rebounds and lead the team in assists. Vitale also committed no fouls while doubling his offensive output of the season. Christopher's 31-41 - 72 Orchard Heights 28-28 - 58 • In the final game, St. Regis Pub maintained its third (dace standing at the expense of winless Peer Inn 80-44." In perhaps the best balanced scoring in league history, seven St. Regis players were in double figures with not one getting more than 12 points! After building up a 13 point lead at halftime, St. Regis ran Peer into the ground with a 44-21 second half spurt. The losers, led by Kip Novotney with 18 points, played only five players in the contest and were visibly tired. Second place Marian Central (2-1) was idle.last weekend and will host Marengo Friday night. Harvard won a pair of games over the weekend topping winless Hononegah 62-61 and winning a non- conference tilt against Genoa-Kingston 58-50. Johnsburg, now 1-2 and 3- 11, will host Hononegah Friday. McHenry will Parks & Recreation The City of McHenry Department of Paries and Recreation is now taking registration for a One Day Ski trip to Alpine Valley Ski Resort in East Troy, Wisconsin. The trip is scheduled for Friday, January 15. This date is a school holiday for McHenry elementary and high school students. Registrations are being taken at McHenry City Hall, nil N. Green Street. All registration is on a first come, first serve basis. The registration deadline for this trip is Wednesday, January 13. The fee for this trip includes transportation by charter coach, lift ticket, lesson, and rental of equipment & needed. Lunch can be purchased at the ski lodge or a sack lunch can be brought. Seperate fees will be charegd for those who have their own equipment, and for those who have to rent equipment. ^ For further information on this trip, call the Department of Paries and Recreation at 344-3300. Marian Girls Scalp Indians HONONEGAH - Nancy Walsh scored 17 points and Jackie Weber added 16 as Marian Central's girls basketball team dumped Hononegah 54-39 last Thursday in the SHARK conference opener for both teams. Hononegah led 10-9 after the first quarter, but Marian stormed past the hosts in the second period, outpointing the Indians 20-8 to take a 29- 18 halftime lead. The Hurricanes boosted their lead to 43-27 after three quarters. Marian, now 3-5 overall, will resume conference play on Thursday, Jan. 14 when it hosts Harvard. ith Annual Ice Fishing Derby will " y, Jaa 23 & 24 from 8:00 a.m. and refreshments will be McCullom Lake The McCullom Lake _ be held on Saturday and to 4:00 p.m. Bai av Beach The fishing derby is an annual event used to raise money for lake management projects by the McCullom Lake Conservation Club such as dredging, weed cutting, and stocking of the lake. Last year over 500 fishermen participated. There will be hourly prizes awarded for the largest and smallest fish plus daily prizes for largest and most fish caught. For anybody unfamiliar with McCullom Lake fishing, there are some nice catches in store. Recent crels contained northern pike up to il lbs., large bass pushing 5 lbs., and perch exceeding 12" in length. The lake also holds bluegills, cranpie, bullhead, channel cat and red-ear sunfish. McCullom Lake Beach House is located one mile west of Route 31 on McCullom Lake Road, just north of McHenry. Watch for the signs. Bitterman bowled the highest scratch game to date for the league, a 227. It also earned him a pizza for all those strikes! Sharing high game honors were T. Stumbris 213 and S. Larkin 190. Splits were converted by J. Creutz 5-7, G. Lofgren 4-7-9, and I. Young 1-3-4-7. The pizza winner for the week was The Magt...again? They seem top be getting a little greedy. Some teams haven't won once and The Magt is pn its third time. Could this team be on the move?
