Copies of a claim filed with the Clerk must be mailed or delivered to the represen tative and to the attorney within 10 days after it has been filed. Vernon W. Kays, Jr. Clerk of the Court (Pub. Jan. 15,22 & 29,1982) No. 820017 Preferred mail rates for non-profit and other qualified mailers were adjusted Jan. 10 as a result of congressional cuts in postal service ap propriations that are used to subsidize those rates. The board of governors of the postal service, during a special meeting, vot^d to \ adjust the rates in order to avoid financial losses. The new rates will bring a l l p r e f e r r e d - r a t e categories, with two ex ceptions, up to the rate levels that would have gone into effect in 1987 under the phase-in schedule for such mail established by the postal Reorganization act. In its continuing resolution enacted Dec. 15, Congress provided for second class in county and* fourth class library rates at levels that would have taken effect in 1984. •The adjustments were required to make up for a reduction of the revenue foregone appropriation that reimburses the postal ser vice for handling these mailings. Under the Postal • R egoranization act and subsequent legislation, these rates were to be phased in .r.iannually ;lo reach full at- v f. tributable costs by 1987/ The continuing, resolution enacted Dec. 15 reduced the revenue foregone ap propriation from $800 million to $614 million. Special Ways With This Week's Specials The wholesale price fW beef is dropping so look for specials on all cuts. Ground beef is selling for bargain prices, so now is a good time lo make extra meat loaves, casseroles and patties. These dishes freeze well. * Pork prices, too, are begin- . ning their seasonal decline. Look for specials on pork shoulders or Boston butt. Debone a Bos ton butt, then roll and <ie it for an outstanding roast. Slices from the butt are good fried, braised, baked or barbe cued. Liver is also a good buy and a serving this week might give your budget a break. All liver is highly perishable and should be cooked within 24 hours of buying. Remember, liver is best on the rare side, faintly pink with rosy juices. If overcooked, it becomes dry and tough and that's the reason some people don't like it. • • • • The right guess is never as good as the cor rect answer. First Termites About 100 million years ago, in the age of dinosaurs, the first termites formed weakly- knit societies and tasted their first bite of wood. Presumably, they derived the ability to assim ilate cellulose from their wood- eating cockroach ancestors; protozoa dwelling in their guts helped digest wood fiber. Na tional Geographic says. Drying Tips Turn pockets of heavy gar ments inside out for faster ̂ y- ing. Close zippers and fasten hooks and eyes to prevent snag ging. Food Choice Women spend more than men on sugars, sweets, fats and oils. Men buy the most frozen din ners and snack foods. New in your neighborhood?
